So, Mike Brown Says, If Given The Choice. . .
. . .he would rather have Kobe take the last shot instead of Lebron.

Well, duh!

Kobe is a proven assassin. There are some guys who are just killers. Kobe's is one of them.

Lebron wanted to be Magic. Kobe wanted to be Michael.

One's a assassin. The other is a great craftsman. And, i do mean great.

Anybody who's ever watched an NBA game wants the assassin in crunch time.

ESPN is running this like it's a revelation. No, it's not.

1. There's about 50 players over Lebron who I'd rather give the last shot to...
Lebron clearly doesn't like to be in that position...he passes off.

2. My Point Exactly
Some guys are ninjas. They want to rip your heart out and show it to you before you die.

Lebron wants to kill you from a million paper cuts. In the last 10 seconds of a game, there isn't time to inflict a million paper cuts.

Mike Brown saying he'd rather have Kobe take the shot is the ultimate "well, duh".

We agree absolutely and completely.

My point was that Mike Brown is belaboring the obvious to anyone who's watched an NBA game in the last 10 years.

3. Personally it depends
Edited on Fri Jun-24-11 05:43 PM by JonLP24
Situation, hot hand, type of shot needed (2 or 3 pointer), etc. I'm more likely to draw up a play that goes to a lesser name who can shoot the ball well if I expect the superstar to receive intense pressure. With Lebron James, I'd probably run the play through him because he can find the open man. I wouldn't mind if he decides to shoot, the East finals against Detroit was probably the best clutch performance I ever seen by anyone and he made some game winning shots against Washington and one against Orlando. Anyways even with a number of missed shots you can point to, he can draw the double team and pass very well.

When it comes to needing a three-pointer or a 3-pointer to take the lead or win the game. I lean Kobe because he is a much better three pointer shooter than James. If I just had James, I'd probably rather have a shooter take the shot.

Anyways I prefer pure shooters to both. Ray Allen or Reggie Miller type. I'd also take a Dirk Nowitzki or Steve Nash. People who are really good shooters. Like I said it depends on the situation. If I was down by 1 or even 2 I'd like a post move or basket inside so in those cases I'd go to an Amare Stoudemire type.

4. That Does Happen In The NBA
The Bulls used to set up plays for Jordan where the immediate option was a rotation out to Kerr or Paxson. Now, if Michael had something he took it, but the entire plan was to have a way to get the ball to the shooter.

Guess there's a difference between an asssassin and a sniper.

5. An assassin can kill from anywhere, a sniper kills from a distance.
Jordan was an assassin, Kerr and Paxson were a snipers, Lebron's a spotter (the guy who helps the sniper take his shot).
