I dont think they were the best team in this tournament, but they never gave up...well done. I suppose you could say the best team wins, though. Or you could say this is one of the biggest upsets.

4. Japan was the best team.. |
|
they beat Germany, Sweden, and the US....coming back twice today. Though I don't hear Bob Lee crowing about how it was one of the greatest comebacks in sports history..like when he went a bit overboard after the US/Brazil match..
Japan played their style and stuck with it...just a great story.

5. I didn't see US vs. Brazil |
|
but Japan's win in the final seemed a lot like what I heard about the US win in the quarterfinal

Did they congratulate us for winning WWII? Of course, we didn't finish our chances in that one, either.

8. First Japan goal was ridiculous |
|
The American defender panicked in the box and made the one mistake you cannot make, centering the ball toward your own net. One ricochet later and it's a tie game.
She had plenty of time to gather herself and notice there was no pressure from the right. Instead she swung wildly and knocked the ball left toward danger.
Also, notice on the second Japan goal how close it came to being a throw in and not a corner kick. The USA player cleared it after the ball went beyond Hope Solo. A few feet further left and it's a tame throw in.

9. On the first Japanese goal, I was reminded of Kaberle |
|
failing to clear the puck from in front of the goal.
