Mariners set franchise record by losing 15th in a row..

Move over 1992 team! There's a brand new leader for the Mariners franchise when it comes to all-time consecutive losses.

Today was the 15th defeat in a row for Seattle and unlike No. 14 last night, this 12-8 beatdown was not a case of the M's playing their hearts out. The pitching was terrible, starting with Michael Pineda's inability to protect an early lead and finishing with some attrocious bullpen outings.

There were also the mental gaffes: by Ichiro getting picked off first base on the back end of a first and third situation. And by Aaron Laffey, forgetting the infield shift was on for David Ortiz and looking to throw to third when he picked up a grounder that resulted in an infield single. Not heads-up baseball. Not mentally tough baseball. Not good baseball. Pretty embarrassing baseball.

And now, this team having flushed its season down the toilet before the month of July even ends, the Mariners face the prospect of heading into Yankee Stadium for three more games.

The Mariners have some decent pitching, but they are last in MLB in runs scored, BA, OBP, SLG, and OPS...by a lot. The offense is just pathetic.

and the Mariners could realistically be looking at an 18 game streak. Already, their 15 games means they've tied the 2002 Rays for the third-longest streak since 1990..the longest being the Royals losing 19 straight in 2005.

6. It's nice to see the Mariners have replaced the Marlins as the inept team of the season

The Marlins' 2-21 in June suddenly looks like ancient history after their 14-8 record in July so far.

7. Jack McKeon looks like a genius compared to Davey Johnson right now

I wouldn't be surprised if the Marlins sweep the Nats.:(

8. Jack has saved the Marlins once before

though this year, I'll admit, the Marlins are too far out of it with two good teams ahead of them (Braves and Phillies) to come back and make the playoffs again for Jack McKeon.

As for the Nationals, I actually saw Bryce Harper play for the Senators at the Bowie Baysox last night. The stadium was packed and pretty evenly split between Nationals and Baysox fans. Every time Harper came up to bat, people either cheered or booed and alot were snapping pictures of each at bat. He didn't do too much. He had a hit that was ruled an error and walked in his last at bat in the 9th. It looks like he's still figuring out AA pitchers. Hopefully, the Nats will keep him in AA for the rest of this year and then see about AAA or the Big Club for next year.

9. Today was the day to see Harper apparantly

He hit his first AA HR. His BA is not great, but its startting to climb..Thats been this guys pattern every time he starts a new league, struggle at first and then really turn it on.
