Just before Sunday's non-waivers trade deadline, the Boston Red Sox acquired Seattle Mariners starter Erik Bedard, a major league source told ESPNBoston.com's Gordon Edes.
The three-team deal also involving the Los Angeles Dodgers was agreed upon just moments before the 4 p.m. ET deadline, according to the source.
In the trade, Bedard and Mariners Triple-A pitcher Josh Fields are headed to Boston; Dodgers outfield prospect Trayvon Robinson is going to Seattle; Red Sox prospects Tim Federowicz, Juan Rodriguez and Stephen Fife are headed to the Dodgers; and Boston prospect Chih Hsien Chiang is headed for Seattle.
Bedard's season has been an interesting one. He's made just one start since coming off the disabled list (sprained knee), giving up five runs in just 1 1/3 innings pitched in what was seen as an audition for teams looking to trade for the lefty. But in the two months prior to going on the DL on June 18, he was one of the more dominant pitchers in the American League. From April 27-June 27, Bedard had an 8-3 record in 11 starts with a 1.77 ERA, a .191 batting average against, 68 strikeouts and 15 walks in 71.1 innings. On the season, he is 4-7 with a 3.45 ERA. He has a 55-48 career record with a 3.69 ERA.
