Jim Thome eighth player to hit 600 homers

DETROIT -- Jim Thome joined elite company on Monday, becoming the eighth player to reach the 600-homer milestone.

Thome laced a first-pitch fastball from Tigers right-hander Rick Porcello over the left-field fence for a two-run homer in the sixth inning at Comerica Park on Monday to mark his 599th career blast.

On his next swing, Thome hit No. 600, off Daniel Schlereth, to reach the historic homer plateau.
