Broncos ready to cut Tebow?
08:04 AM ET 08.22 | The Tebow era in Denver may be over before it even gets started. The consensus in speaking with a handful of team personnel executives when it comes to one Tim Tebow is this: A trade could happen, but it's becoming increasingly likely the Broncos will keep or cut Tebow because the trade interest is dwindling rapidly. The executives portray the Tebow situation as a complicated one. They believe that while the Broncos are not openly trying to trade Tebow, they say that when teams have recently inquired about him, the Broncos haven't been saying he's off the trading block, either. Again, just to be clear, the Broncos aren't openly shopping Tebow but teams that have asked were told: Make us an offer we can't refuse.

2. I have a friend that is a Cowboys fan like me, and he wants to see
the Cowboys go after Tebow and get rid of Romo.

:wtf:

I'm serious!

5. If Timmeh wasn't such an in-your-face Christian, do you honestly think
he would have gone in the first round? Don't you think the media et al would not have been so blinded by his Christian goodness and see that he does not have the skills to make it in the NFL?

12. No - he did win a Heisman and two national titles
He also has the SEC rushing touchdown record. Players like that tend to go first round.

16. Wrong,
he was a member of two teams that won national championships. Chris Leak was the starting QB for the 2006 championship team, Tebow was the starter on the '08 squad.

It would be like billing Matt Cassel as a "two time national champion".

18. What about what's-his-name from Oklahoma who won the Heisman and wasn't even
drafted...even Timmeh's strongest supporters knew he didn't have the arm for the pros...but they rationalized that he was so wonderful he could learn.

22. in his defense, part of the reason Jason White wasn't drafted was injury concerns
By the time he finished college he had torn his ACL in each knee and had a suspect elbow in his throwing arm.

24. it's actually pretty unusual for Heisman winning QBs to be drafted in the first round
Of the 10 most recent QB winners before Tebow, only Leinart Matt and Carson Palmer were drafted in the first round. That's true even of most Heisman QBs with national championships.

25. Not to mention
Matt Leinart actually had a better COLLEGE career than Tim Tebow.

That fact always gets overlooked!

6. Everything Rush Limbaugh said about Donovan McNabb...
would have made a hell of a lot more sense if said about Tim Tebow.

There is a constituency that has a very vested interest of hyping the shit out of Tim Tebow, and as such, he'll probably get more chances than he deserves to play quarterback in the NFL.

7. I wish the Broncos had tried to deal Tebow instead of Orton prior to the preseason
I've never been a believer that Tebow would be a particularly good QB in the NFL, but at least at the very beginning of camp there was still a lot of hype about him and maybe another team would have overpaid for him.

I'm not surprised that Orton has outplayed Tebow in camp--Orton is a solid QB who has gotten consistently better each year. Last year Orton was a good QB--fans were upset when he struggled on third down and in the red zone, but when you don't have a running game that's what happens.

Brady Quinn has been a bit of a surprise--he's only a few years older than Tebow and it appears that he might be starting to play into the potential that many saw in him in college.

8. Bronc's are going all in for the Andrew Luck sweepstakes
They'll trade Orton, start noodle arm BQ and finish worst in the league. McDaniel set that team back years but they can be back on top with a little Luck.

9. I have seen a shitload of SEC games and great players
John Reaves throwing to Carlos Alvarez

Pat Sullivan to Terry Beasley

Archie, Peyton, and Eli

Hershel Walker / many more
Hershel was the best I had ever seen play until Tebow.

Screw the pros, in college he was the best. I can see the pro game and Timmy not getting along but give him his due.

Watching him changed though during his years at Florida and it was a Gator players knee that caused it. I don't think he really ever came back from the hit @ Kentucky, they were up 40 or so by then. Taylor Wyndham, off the bench, cleanly leveled a great blind side hit on Timmy but Marcus Gilbert's knee got in the way.
I really don't think he was ever the same.

Glad to have seen him play.
That said, Fuck Florida

Edited on Tue Aug-23-11 01:25 PM by rocktivity
that there was no plan to cut Tebow and they'd keep developing him as the second or third string quarterback. Of course, things can change in a flash, like the season-ending ACL injury to the Giants' Terrel Thomas.

15. I've said it before and I'll say it again...
the guy has barely played at all at the pro level. Give him time to learn.

Brady Quinn played for the dysfunctional Browns -- different challenge.

21. Sometimes it's not overly complicated
Heading into the 2010 draft two of the best known college players didn't translate to the pro game -- Tim Tebow with the awful throwing mechanics and Taylor Mays with the lack of instincts. There were several related threads in this forum.

Somehow two Western teams brainstormed to overlook the obvious deficiencies, with Tebow astonishingly in the first round and Mays tabbed by the 49ers in the second.

Mays was traded to the Bengals today, apparently for a low round future pick. He may be shifted to LB by Cincinnati. Tebow is like the rent, too damn high at 3rd string QB.

Now we need to fade the hideous rumors of Miami's DE Philip Merling swapped for Tebow. That would parallel the death penalty in my book.

He's being outplayed by Quinn & Weber. I don't know, this is according to reports. I follow the Broncos as my AFC team.

Colts signed Kerry Collins.
