After a week of speculation, rumor and innuendo, the situation down in Baton Rouge has officially gotten very, very serious.
Multiple media outlets are reporting that arrest warrants have been issued for LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson and linebacker Josh Johns on second-degree battery. That charge is a felony in the state of Louisiana.
Clay Travis of OutkickTheCoverage spoke to the attorney for the two players, Nathan Fisher, who said he was with his clients as they turn themselves in at the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. Fisher said he’s hopeful the players would be released without bail.
The police report from last Friday morning’s off-campus bar fight was released Thursday, with Jefferson identified as the individual who kicked one of the four alleged victims in the brawl in the face. That same witness, a 19-year-old female, also said she saw Johns attack the same alleged victim.
Multiple witnesses have also stated that one of the alleged victims actually threw the first punch and started the melee.
Thursday, the Baton Rouge Police Department executed a search warrant on Jefferson’s apartment, seizing 49 pairs of athletic shoes as well as taking a DNA swab from the QB’s mouth.
LSU has yet to comment on this latest development, although they are expected to at some point today. The fourth-ranked Tigers will face No. 3 Oregon eight days from today.
Obviously, stay tuned as this is an extremely fluid situation…
