The Giants designated veterans Miguel Tejada and Aaron Rowand for assignment on Wednesday, making room for the activation of outfielder Pat Burrell from the disabled list and the purchase of the contract of infielder Brett Pill from Triple-A Fresno.
Tejada was in his first season with the Giants and batted .239 (77-for-322) with four home runs and 26 RBIs in 91 games. The 37-year-old missed 25 games this season with a lower abdominal strain and since his return from the disabled list on Aug. 16 had started four of San Francisco's last 14 games.
Rowand, who has spent the last four seasons in a Giants uniform, batted .233 (77-for-331) with four home runs and 21 RBIs in 108 games. He had four hits in his last 40 at-bats (.100) and was hitting .205 (17-for-83) over his last 34 contests.

Rowand has been so bad the Giants are willing to eat the 12 mil he has coming next year. Outside of a nice catch in the 9th inning of Jonathan Sanchez's 2009 no hitter, I can't remember him ever doing anything positive for the Giants. He's been as close to an automatic out, particularly in clutch situations, as I've ever seen from a Giants position player.
With Tejada, he sealed his fate on in the bottom of the 11th on Sunday. When, with the Giants trailing by 1 run and a runner on first with 0 outs, he was asked to sacrifice. First, Miggy acted as if he couldn't believe it, actually shaking his head "no", leading to a talk with third base coach Tim Flannery. Then, after bunting, he jogged slowly to first base..
