I know this is DU, but . . . Is anyone ready for some College Football?
And before you post, I don't mean that European game that results in 1-0 scores. I mean Football. You know, tailgating as the leaves change on a bright and crisp October day, packed stadiums, Flutie throwing the bomb, Paterno at 85, brats and burgers, college friends of 40+ years getting together again, Barry Sanders, Bubba Smith, rivalries (no tree killings, please), Lee Corso putting on the headgear, hope springing eternal, and the roar of the crowd as Uga, Sparty, Ralphie or the USC white horse Traveler come out of the tunnel.

And mostly the alma mater, and times and experiences that always mattered more than football, but which are recaptured today through the college game and maybe nowhere else. Yes, I know DU has never really gone for sports. But I will take a sunlit Saturday in October at a rivalry game with dear and longstanding friends looking out from the stands onto my campus awash in all its bright autumn colors - as I remember 40 years ago - over most experiences I have had in life.

Welcome back, college football. For all your blemishes, you have been missed.

1. Faygo. I think you seriously underestimate DU about sports.
I've seen you get quite angry. Keep this in mind. Whatever makes you happy. Competition (in other words, sports) makes me happy. God forbid, if you don't see that light. That's their loss. Let's play some ball.

4. What stadium is that? Not familiar with that kind of obscurity.
Didn't some guy named Rodriguez coach there?

5. "DU has never really gone for sports."
Have you ever been in this forum before?! My enraged rants over the women's World Cup got me a one-way ticket to Iggyland from one of my heretofore stalwart cyberfriends. :(

10. I'd be more ready if the conferences weren't bent on screwing it all up
I'd managed to forget, for instance, all about divisional play in the Big Ten(12) until flipping past the Big Ten Network the other night and heard blather about "Leaders" and "Legends." So they're really sticking with those idiotic names?

And this is one of the more "stable" conferences...

11. Can't wait!
The worst era in Michigan football (in my lifetime, anyway) is over and a Michigan man is at the helm. Looking for a return to dominance -- Go Blue!

13. I remember Corso at Louisville, he was funny as hell.
You could get Louisville tickets free when you filled up with gas until Lee came. LOL Tonight@ 9:15 Kentucky at Western Kentucky in Nashville TN, go figure, Late night kickoff on a school/ work night 3 hours from Lexington. Probably not a good turn out, but it is a recruiting home game for Western. Joker's 2nd team will be having fun in the SEC East. Western has a great back in Rainey but it will be a blowout. Will miss Randall Cobb leaving for the Packers. The Pack was the perfect place for him though. UK 42- WKU 12.

14. I'm ready. My parking pass is already hanging from my rear view mirror.
The rock group Airiel Down has done a mix of our family's University, NC State, fight songs. Ready to plug it into my trucks CD player.

Optimism high and no loses yet. It's called the beginning of the season.
