I don't like this: Hamilton out of Texas lineup for child’s birth
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP)—Reigning AL MVP Josh Hamilton has been scratched from the Texas Rangers’ lineup to be with his wife for the birth of their fourth daughter.

Hamilton was originally in the Rangers’ lineup for the opener of a series against Oakland before his wife, Katie, went into labor Friday afternoon.

The Rangers switched Endy Chavez from center field to left field and inserted Craig Gentry into the lineup to play center.

He's making $12 million this year. He's batting .298 for the year and .320 in the last seven days. The Rangers are in a close race to the finish. :puke:

1. Like it or not...that's the way it is nowadays..
and sometimes the absence can literally hurt the team. Last Sunday, Giants set up man Sergio Romo and his 1.60 ERA, was unavailable (his wife was giving birth) in the 8th inning of a 1-1 contest in a key game against the D-Backs..one the Giants needed to win to have any sort of chance of catching them.. Bochy had to use a far less effective Ramirez as his righthander instead and he, along with some help from Affeldt, promptly gave up 3 runs in what ended up being a 4-1 Arizona victory..

4. Uh, he's making good money, and his employer apparently gave him permission.
I don't see the problem. He's an entertainer. Whether or not the Rangers win anything is irrelevant, in reality. It's all just business.

8. I doubt the kids will ever bother to vote.
The children of wealthy cons tend to be focused on themselves, and don't pay much attention to the world.
