And I have to give kudos for Tampa sort of "re-loading" during this rebuilding year. I would be concerned with the Sox if I were a fan because of the pitching problems. Even if they hold on, I'm not seeing Boston right now advancing very far in the playoffs.

Same with the 2004 Cardinals. Since the 1994 strike, a dozen teams have gone on a 70-33 jag. None has missed the playoffs.

when a team has nothing to lose and this is their season they will play like it's the playoffs. They will give Boston everything they have. watch out.

Oh boo fucking hoo. Suck it up and take the field. Okay, maybe Youk has a hernia. Excuse given. Beckett's ankle sprain, fine. Surgery? Okay, you get a pass. But it's the bullshit "I don't feel at my best" crap I'm so sick of. Complete Games for pitchers these days are as few and far between as triple plays, but back in the day...whoooaaaa. And shit, Yaz played with a broken rib after hitting the Green Monster. Just kept playing, because that's what you did.

Bah, I wish them luck and I still have some confidence but it's a tarnished victory if they get the wild card. But a victory I'll take!
