1. 49ers were missing two offensive starters
FB Bruce Miller was out and RG Adam Snyder left in the second quarter with a strained hamstring. Miller has done an awesome job of blocking for RB Gore as has Snyder. And without Snyder's pass protection Baltimore was able to rack up nine sacks. I think it would have been a different game with those two starting.

9. The reality of the NFL is that you've got to have people who can step up when injuries hit.
The 2010 Packers are the ultimate proof of that.

2. What Auggie said about Miller and Snyder..
even last week when Miler went out, the difference was noticeable. And I'm not even sure why Snyder's replacement, Chilo Rachal, is still on the team. The injuries, along with having only 3 days to prepare for the Ravens blitz packages, made for a sorry state of affairs as the problem with the OL was the story of the game..

The 49ers defense, excepting Donte Whitner's key missed tackle, played pretty well. After the game, Ray Rice, who averaged only 2.8 yards per carry, said the 49ers were "the best defense we’ve seen all year.” When you hold a team to 253 total yards and 16 points...you should win.

Remember, the 49ers haven't had a winning season since 2002. This is Harbaugh's first year, and despite their gaudy record, they're still a work in progress. I expect they will learn from this and make them stronger in the long run..

3. The Niners will never win a super bowl with Alex Smith.
Period.

4. Yeah, I think that's probably so
He's been playing better under Harbaugh, yet last night it looked like he reverted to the Mike Nolan version.

5. Let me abck up a bit by saying
that the Niners are vastly improved with Harbaugh and anything is possible.

The Ravens and Bucs won Super Bowls with sub-par QB's but they had the Defense to do it with.

6. 49ers have a solid defense
They have an unreal rush D that hasn't allowed a single rushing TD so far this year, top 10 pass D. Alex Smith is having a better year than either of those QBs did their Super Bowl year. That said, they play in the same conference as the Pack.

7. But they dont have a Defense
That will win a super bowl on their own.

10. Who the hell knows?

I look at it like a weighted coin flip, say Green Bay has a first round bye and they would defeat their Divisional round opponent 80 out of 100 times if they played that many. One of those flips could land those 20 times, funny shaped ball, helmet hits ball and D returns for a TD, bad snap, etc. I look at the NFL like flipping a coin 4 times while the MLB is flipping a coin (simplistic POV) 40 times. You may get heads 3 times and tails once but flip it 40 it starts to even out at 50/50. That is why a team like the Phillies losing to the Cubs in a single game isn't made out to be some shocker as eventually overtime the talented teams rise and bad teams sink.

Point is, that is why they play the games and I'm excited to find out. :bounce:

On edit-They have Gore, smart play-calling(I loved the decisions by Harbaugh to go for it on 4th on 1 and on a later drive a 4th and 2 in Cardinals territory even though it was against my team), and a Smith that is playing well-I cut some slack for his last performance considering it was against the Baltimore D.
