Lions' Suh adopts coaches' phony persona

Ndamukong Suh has been labeled dirty, out of control, a thug in the aftermath of what is now known as The Suh Stomp. All have merit.

Intentionally stepping on the arm of Evan Dietrich-Smith after the whistle while the Green Bay Packers guard lay on the ground on Thanksgiving was stupid.

I will go you one better on labels: The Detroit Lions defensive tackle is a product of his environment.

Football teams and players have a way of taking on the personality of their coaches. And Suh's past two coaches — in the NFL and Nebraska — have been belligerent, bullying, raging sideline lunatics.

Just this season, Lions coach Jim Schwartz trash-talked Dallas Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant on the sideline during a game, chased San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh down for a slap fight after a game and is just a generally combative you-know-what. And he looks tame compared with Nebraska coach Bo Pelini.

1. I love the way they spun Schwartz as being the bad guy over Harbaugh.

Harbaugh was just as much a douche in that incident.

2. With all due respect, that article is ridiculous.

I think it is time for the media to go back to their regularly scheduled lives. I always feel like I have to preface this by saying that I am a lifelong Packer fan, but I spent a good deal of my adult life in the Detroit area. What Suh did was wrong, but it appears his victim has moved on and so should we. He has been penalized, whether we agree with the leniency/severity (depending upon your loyalties) or not. Jim Schwartz is exactly what that team needed at the time he was brought on. I watched the Dallas game and Dez was being an ass the entire time. That doesn't excuse Schwartz's reaction but it does lend context. I am still trying to find footage of a purported "slap fight" with Harbaugh. I wish there had been one because I can't stand his face either. ;)

3. According to an interview with an Ex-Nebraska team mate now in the NFL,,,

Suh was not well liked by his own team when at Nebraska. They respected and admired his abilities, BUT, he went well past the demeanor required on the field, and twice during practice, he displayed similar agressions on his own team mates! He just wanted to hurt somebody. Ex team mate says Nebraska covered it up, and is also NOT pleased about what Suh did. He says he needs help mentally before he actually hurts somebody

The guy likely has mental health issues, and he needs treatment or his career will be short.
