6. well, not exactly even...

...it's a weighted lottery. the sabres, blue jackets, rangers (suck!), and pens have three balls each in the lottery drum, then ten teams have two each, and the remaining 16 teams have one each.

so the devils have a shot (albeit small) at crosby. as long as neither the rangers nor the flyers get him, i'm okay. truthfully, i'd be happier if both teams ceased operations (along with the yankees and braves), but you can't have everything.

As for the draft, yeah, it's weighted, but not nearly like the usual lottery is. Typically, playoff teams have astronomical odds at the top pick, if they have a chance at all. In this, they seem to not have a vastly different chance from anyone else.

I would like to see Crosby go to the Rangers, if he doesn't go to my team. The NHL really needs the Rangers to do well. The decline of the NHL had a lot to do with the decline of the Rangers. The sport reached its peak when they won the cup and getting that franchise back on track will go a long way towards curing what ails the sport.

13. I think that was a coincidence

The Olympics had pretty high ratings for hockey. The Rangers did themselves in... they don't deserve handouts. If Crosby goes to NYC he won't become anything near what he could be in a place with less distraction. Just look at Daigle... he was a total flake until he came to Mpls with the Wild and wound up being their leadin scorer (not saying much I know!)

But in terms of tv ratings, even though hockey get miniscule numbers, they do go up when the Rangers play. I think in 1994 when the Rangers won the cup the ratings for the Stanley Cup finals were comparable to the NBA finals, which is something that will never happen again.

Flyers fan here: Big question for all in U.S. - will the fan base diminish due to lack of '94-'95 season? I'm not asking Canadians because I know you're all very hard core hockey fans and can't wait for the new season to start. But here in the U.S., American football is the big hit (I love it too). Other favorites are basketball and baseball (yuck). Futbol, no. Hockey, maybe. I just don't understand.

Minnesota will sell out every game like it has since they first dropped the puck.

Teams like the Panthers, Hurricanes, Coyotes, Thrashers, and Preds may have trouble filling seats after the first few games.

Baseball is almost like golf, slow, boring, total naptime. I want the action. Some other women think I'm nuts, but I love the pounding, slamming and pace of football and hockey. Also been a big fan of soccer for years.

Also, TSN in Canada is televising the lottery announcement, so it's possible that their website, www.tsn.ca , will have the results up a tad quicker than other places.

The fishbowl isn't good for young superstars to be. That's why I propose he goto the Wild. We have Daigle who can teach him how NOT to do things, Lemaire who is basically a hockey god, Patrick Ramsey, Mario Tremblay.

He'd look real nice playing alongside Rolston and Gaborik.

The only possible downside of him getting drafted by Toronto is that winning the cup every year for the first few years of his career might make him complacent and less hungry down the road.

Sidney Crosby will likely play with Hall of Famer Mario Lemieux next season, as the Pittsburgh Penguins won an unprecedented 30-team draft lottery on Friday.

"Nothing's done yet but I'd been more than happy to play there," Crosby told cable sports network TSN immediately after the lottery. "I'm very excited right now."

"He's really a tremendous young man, and that's most important," Gretzky told CBC News.

"Every now and then somebody special comes along, and he's that guy. He's a special person, he's a special player. Either you have charisma as an athlete or you don't he has tremendous charisma."

Was hoping for a Top 10, but I can live with 14. It's actually a lot higher than I thought they would get. I had feared something in the 20's.

But the Caps have Ovechkin coming over, and other guys like Semin & Fehr. So lots to look forward to
