Number 7, Lance Wins! The National Anthem made me cry!
Who says we Liberals are not Patriotic.
I have been heavily involved in cycling for over thirty years. Thirty years ago, cycling was nothing in America. At that time, to even suggest that an American race in the TDF would have been a joke. To have an American on an American team win would be like having one of those "American Football" teams in Europe win the Super Bowl. NOW IT"S BEEN SEVEN STRAIGHT YEARS!
If Americans can do this, I have to believe we can do anything:
We can have fair wages for anyone working,
We can have health care for everybody,
We can solve problems without war,
We can solve the energy crises without ruining the planet,

I'm a progressive and I believe the USA should stand for the finest in human achievement, not for bloody war, torture, or a unacceptable divide between the haves and have-nots.

Today I believe!

7! 7! 7! 7! 7! 7! 7!

1. Lance Armstrong is great, no doubt about it.
But will the American public be anywhere near as interested next year whe Armstrong allegedly will not be racing? It may just revert back to a mainly European event and then it'll be goodbye USA public. Hope Discovery Channel and OLN have some sort of contigency plan. Are there any Americans waiting in the wings?

6. Yes there are...
Discovery Channel has a great up and coming star this tour was his first I believe he won the white (youngest) jersey, his name escapes me right now.

Then you have Levi Leipheimer (finished 5 this year), plus Tyler Hamilton (who didn't race this year cause he failed a drug test so hopefully he will not be stupid next year), plus many others (I think the tour had 30+ American racers this year). I don't think any of these guys will be like Lance but they will have good chances of winning the tour someday. I think bicycle racing will continue to grow in this country which I think is great.

7. I believe Lance wants to become Governor of Texas someday
but I am not sure what his political beliefs are so I don't really know how i feel about him for governor. But if his action on the bicycle are anything similar to his actions in a politcal arena then more power to him.

From an unofficial Lance Armstrong Fan Club

Once we settle down to talk at a long wooden table, we are swapping stories about George W. Bush, his fellow Texan. We agree that our politics are different to Bush's, but that the President is smarter, funnier and more likeable than the caricature. Even Sheryl, whose politics Armstrong describes as "way out Left", says that it's hard to meet Bush and not like him. I had assumed, because he and Bush were Texans and I'd seen pictures of them laughing and joking in the Oval Office, that Armstrong was a Republican. But he says his politics are "middle to Left". He is "against mixing up State and Church, not keen on guns, pro women's right to choose". And very anti war in Iraq.

So the "summit" has begun and here I am, thinking that I'd be getting hours of top-quality insight for my triathlon training, and, instead, it's like I am back in my old job, defending military action, defending the Bush-Blair relationship, insisting we did the right thing and saying, long term, it will make the world a safer place. But Armstrong is screwing up his face and he won't have it. "I don't like what the war has done to our country, to our economy," he says. "My kids will be paying for this war for some time to come. George Bush is a friend of mine and just as I say it to you, I'd say to him, 'Mr President, I'm not sure this war was such a good idea', and the good thing about him is he could take that."

12. Say what?...
..."George Bush is a friend of mine and just as I say it to you, I'd say to him, 'Mr President, I'm not sure this war was such a good idea', and the good thing about him is he could take that."

From the extreme hubris, arrogance and intolerance of dissent Shrub has shown to this point, I'd say Armstrong is giving Bush too much credit. Dub's track record just doesn't bear it out.

9. I think he is a great athlete and truly a great role model for kids.
I hope he will stay in the cycling arena so that it will stay in the public consciousness.
