The whole league will look entirely different by the time they finally drop the puck this fall--and it's practically a whole new game, rules-wise.

I hope all this has been good for the game--I guess we'll know by the time the playoff run begins next spring.

8. The union signed the deal that allows the teams to do this.

The teams are buying out players to make room under the cap for other players. The net effect is that they'll be spending more with the buyouts than without them. It's unclear how this is anti-union, especially since the union signed onto this with about 80% of its members voting for it.

The players being bought out receive 2/3's of their old salary for nothing. They can then turn around and sign with another team, and if their new salary is more than a third of the old one, they come out ahead.

I'd be interested to see what the offer was. If it was any more than 2 million, they're crazy. Especially considering how many players are about to be let loose.
