Yesterday Al Leiter pitched 5 innings for the Yankees and gave up one run. The Yankees had yet to score a run. In the 7th with Tanyon Sturtze pitching, the Twins scored 3 more runs bringing the score to 4-0. The Twins also scored 2 runs in top of the 8th brining the score to 6-0. In the bottom of the 8th the Yankees scored 3 runs.

My question....how is Al Leiter tagged with the loss?

is the pitcher who is on the mound when the lead is taken for good.

2. He was the pitcher of record when he left with his team losing

The only way he couldn't get the loss would be if the Yankees tied the game up somewhere. Even if he left after no innings pitched and his team down 1-0 he would get the loss if the Ynakees never tied the game.

3. A shame he had to take the loss

He had guys on base and was in a jam every inning but he made some big pitches and got out of it every time, except for one run scored. He did his job and if they can get 5-6 innings from him every time with him keeping them in the ballgame he is going to be a big help.

5. he was lucky

he only gave up one run anyhow. He was in trouble all night.
