1. 3 for Sure

Bonds, Maddux, and Sosa all have the numbers for the HOF, I am not sure about the rest of the guys. I would like to see Biggio just because he plays the game the right way. I think Glavine would have if he could have stayed in Atlanta, Pedro could but he needs to get the numbers and the same for Smoltz.

Those 2 would be Bonds and Maddux. I can see Sosa as well. Everyone else, I'm not sure of.

Are the sure things.... I say "possibly" for the rest but I can't honestly say for sure. I would say Smoltz's few seasons as a closer might of given him a better chance than before so we'll see.

9. Palmeiro...OUT!

Baltimore Orioles first baseman Rafael Palmeiro will be suspended by Major League Baseball for violating the league's steroids policy, ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney has confirmed with a league source.


Palmeiro, who recently got his 3,000th career hit, was noted for his emotional denial of steroid use before a Congressional panel in March, would be the latest player suspended under the league's new drug policy.

The first four are no-brainers to me. Martinez might be the best pitcher of all time, and Bonds is among the top three hitters.

13. You know, after Don Sutton got in

I started tightening my standards. The HoF should be for players who inspire awe, not pass milestones or have better-than-average careers.

I could ask every person in my office of 133 people to name any stat that comes to mind about Glavine, and not one would come up with a knowledgeable answer. Those that follow baseball would know, however, that Maddux won four Cy Youngs in a row (and IMO should have won it the year Pedro got it in Montreal). Maddux inspired amazement.

I freely admit, however, that in most sports matters I'm in the minority, and Glavine will get in on his first time, but with Sutton in and Blyleven out I have no tolerance for anyone but jaw-dropping players these days. Glavine just doesn't make my cut.
