Rich Gannon to retire
Oakland Raiders quarterback Rich Gannon is retiring after 18 season in the NFL to become a television analyst.

<snip>

Gannon's playing career essentially ended last season when he broke a vertebra in his neck.

"When I suffered the broken neck, the decision was made for me," Gannon said. "It wasn't a situation where I would be able to play anymore. But I have no regrets."

Gannon has been with the Raiders since 1999. He was the NFL MVP in 2002 when he led Oakland to the Super Bowl.

1. I'll miss Gannon...
just like Hostetler, and Plunkett, and Stabler, the Raiders were always in the game with Gannon at the helm!

4. I saw him play in College
I was in the Navy stationed at Philadelphia and went to see the Blue Hens against Arkansas State. I think it was in 87. Gannon was a monster back then, however If memory serves, Arkansas State won the game with Bill Bergey pacing their sidelines. It was a crisp fall day in the a beautiful old stadium. I wish him well.
