10 Years ago today, the greatest third baseman ever

to play the game was inducted into Baseball's Hall of Fame; on the first ballot, of course. I know true baseball fans know who I am referring to but for those just perusing this morning, that player would be Michael Jack Schmidt, Philadelphia Phillies. 548 steroid free home runs and 20+ years dealing with the nastiest fans in the sport. I know Brooks Robinson's name will come up and I will concede his defensive prowess was as good as Schmidt's but who'd ya rather have batting cleanup?

Schmidty should be on the Most Under-appreciated Athletes list. I grew up idolizing him. Don't forget, he was a gold-glove 3rd basemen too. I saw many a diving stop and a few barehanded stabs from Schmidt. He was all-around one of the best ever.

8. Philly Phans boo Santa

Happened during a halftime on one of the last games of another lousy season. The "real" Santa on got stuck in traffic so they pulled a drunk one out of the stands and the booing began.

Loved Schmidty. Never booed him. Classy guy from a different era. Proud to say he was inducted with another Philly favorite Richie Ashburn. We managed to have one of the largest crowds during the induction ceremony
