Frank Robinson: Raffy's stats should be erased
WASHINGTON -- Washington Nationals manager Frank Robinson thinks Rafael Palmeiro's statistics should be erased because the Baltimore Orioles slugger was suspended for a failed drug test.

"Where do you go back, stop and say, 'OK, when did he start using steroids?' To eliminate all that, and get the players' attention, you wipe the whole thing out," Robinson told MLB.com in a story posted on the Web site Tuesday night.

"Why put the burden on baseball to try and figure out where to go, and maybe put an asterisk? Just wipe the whole thing out."

question: should this be like amateur sports, where using an ineligible player means you forfeit? and how can we change the stats of the players he went against? we'd have to recalculate the ERAs of a bunch of pitchers, no doubt. It'd be interesting though, have him completely erased from the game...

5. Nothing says we have to be focused on politics and war 24/7
There's other things in this world to discuss, as long as we don't lose focus. If all that's on your mind is all the negative stuff going on, that's a good way to go insane.

8. Getting back to the original topic

Palmeiro has never done much for me. The guy didn't do much in the clutch when he came up w/the Cubs(my #1a team- Tigers are #1). I don't recall him doing much in the clutch after leaving Chicago, either. So he got a lot of hits. I've ignored him most of his career.

Erasing his stats isn't the way to address the issue. Selig should have bounced Palmeiro for life. That would keep Raffy from the HOF. Hell, Bucky Weaver didn't cheat-he simply didn't tattle- and he got the boot.

I'm not Bill James, so I'd love it if someone could tell me Palmeiro's stats when the game was still on the line vs. when the game was decided.

12. I don't know what the answer is...
But to see these steroid-saturated musclebots erase the record-breaking stats of true athletes makes me sick to my stomach and it makes a joke of the Hall.

18. Robby was one of the greatest sluggers of all time
and sees his great stats and those of his truly great contemporaries like Mays and Aaron and Mantle being watered down by guys who couldn't carry their jocks if they weren't juiced up.

It's about time someone of Robinson's stature spoke up about this.

19. That would be unfair. Baseball ALLOWED them to take steroids for years
People should be booing Bud Selig.
