Pittsburgh vs. New England
OK, I'm loving this today. I am not a Steeler Fan, just a New England Hater. Brady is not the golden child anymore, hey?

1. Mmm. . .
:points to fluke plays: 15-20, 140 yards passing? You say he's not the golden kid anymore? I wouldn't say that, he's pretty damn good right now. I don't hate Brady on the field and pay no heed to him off it. He is a football player, on that is obviously being groomed for political office. . .something that I don't think much of because he acts like he wants to show his "wild" side. However, the Bears and Browns lost. But, the Bengals won. Palmer is a bad ass and I really, really like Rothleisberger (sp?)

3. Pats fan, Brady fan.
Good game, but a lot of flukey stuff. It's tight, so it's guys coming up with big plays at critical moments that makes the difference.

The Pats are a "bend but don't break" team...they don't always dominate, but they just seem to know how to win. They've been shaky to start this season, but if anyone knows how to adjust it's Belichek.

4. 20-13 New England, but I know better than to count Pittsburgh out.
This next drive will tell all.

8. Really Sloppy Game
Lots of weird plays on both sides. Randel El looked like he was trying to lose the game on a few occasions. The lateral, the stopping his hot route. A couple other occasions. Patriots played really sloppy. Lots of bad penalties. Injuries on both sides.

Just a sloppy game on both sides of the ball.

I was most impressed by the Patriots Defensive Line. They did a great job keeping Big Ben hurried, sacked, etc. They kept him contained and didn't give him a chance to find an open reciever.

Other than them though. The Patriots secondary practically kept the Steelers in the game with their timely penatlies (thanks Chad). The Steelers offensive line just didn't seem themselves, and the Steelers Defense while looking great at times, gave the Patriots recievers way too much room.

I'm not sure what kind of coverage they were running, but whatever they tried in the 4th quarter it didn't work.

Maybe we'll see yet another rematch in the playoffs. Hopefully this time up in Foxboro with the Steelers the underdogs who pull it out of their hat. :)

11. Agreed.
Patriots fans can curse Chad Scott's name for a week for that damn PI at the three on FOURTH AND FUCKING 11, and Steelers fans can bemoan the fact that Antwaan Randle El (look! I spelled his name right!) thought he was playing rugby.

14. Dumb Player of the Game Award
Hey I just gained 60 yards and i'm on the 10 yard line! How bout I lateral to someone not looking! That'd be smart!

I stood up and yelled at the television. "STUPID!!!!" Isn't the NFL past the point in your football career when someone says to you

"Ok...now...whatever you do...don't lateral the ball unless it's part of the play."

Just stupid. He played bad the whole game, but that was just....wow...I hope Cowher ripped him a new asshole.

7. Brady's not the golden child?
I guess throwing 12 of 12 for 168 yards in the 4th quarter should put that idea to rest.

15. Patriots figured to play big, on the road after a defeat
That's something my Las Vegas friends and I always look for, top teams on the road one game after a straight up loss. You get a motivated team and since it's away from home the tariff is generally not stiff.

The two teams that fit today were New England and Atlanta. Both won in tough environs. If both had been coming off a win I guarantee at least one of them would have lost. Last year New England played the Jets on the road one week after losing at Miami on a Monday night. It was a short week but perhaps New England's best effort of the regular season. Again, if they had defeated the Dolphins I'm sure the effort would not have been as good.

NFL road teams coming off a loss do 9% better versus the pointspread than road teams coming off a win. That holds up eerily every year. It's generally 45% of road teams coming off a win cover, while 54% of road teams coming off a loss cover. I'm just using the pointspread specifics as a reference to make the point. Even if you have no interest in sports betting it's useful to know that trend to anticipate performance levels.
