THE NATIONAL LEAGUE (B)EAST
26 September and all teams are at least 500.

Phillies V Astros - a slugfest for the wildcard!

A little levity posted in the midst of hurricane pain and republican skullduggery.

2. The 69 Mets
Who was their centerfielder, right fielder? Can't think of his name but he is a sportscaster in New Orleans. I'm drawing a blank but he's a joy to listen to.

I got an audio tape of a Phillies-Mets game of 1964. Awesome.

3. Swoboda?
I think you may be referring to Ron Swoboda. Ron, not known for defense at the time, made a miraculous catch in the OF during the '69 WS.

6. Tommie's gone
I thought of Tommie Agee during Katrina - he was from Mobile, AL. He passed away a year or two ago.

5. Yes - Ron Swoboda
Voice of the New Orleans Zephyrs, Minor League Baseball Team. That catch has been seen ten million times on New Orleans TV. He is really easy to listen to when broadcasting games or doing sports reports. Great guy. I'm a Phillie Fan from about three hundred years ago, but I really liked what those 69 Mets did.

7. '64 Phils - Happy Father's Day!
I'll never forget Jim Bunning's perfecto on Father's Day - pretty sure it was '64 at brand new Shea Stadium.
Those were some good Philly teams back then - I think they just missed in '64 to the Cards. Richie Allen, Johnny Callison, Bobby Wine - you had Bunning and Chris Short pitching. Gene Mauch. - good ol days!
My Mets stunk in those days, but it was fun to watch these awesome teams come in and see if we could knock one off once in awhile. Didn't happen too often in '64, but Shea was brand new and the World's Fair was across the tracks - heaven for a 10 year old!
Hope you're doing OK in N.O. - we're pulling for y'all!

9. I was a 10 year old in 64 too
I'm still in therapy thanks to the 64 Phils; six game lead, they lost ten in a row. Art Mahafey and Chris Short (who died of Brain Cancer in the 80's), Tony Taylor and Tony Gonzalez, Don Demeter. What a team. My grandpa was an usher for the Phillies and we lived six blocks from Connie Mack Stadium on Somerset Street. I'd get into the games free after the third inning. Hard to believe the Phillies are two stadiums removed from Connie Mack, Mike Schmidt's been retired for ten years and I'm just 51.

New Orleans will be fine and dandy. Thanks for the positive thoughts.
