I can't believe Shawntinice "Polkey" Polk died yesterday.......
Polkey was the center for the Arizona Wildcats women's basketball team. She was All-Pac Ten for 3 years and an honorable mention All-American. She was just a great, great player. Yesterday she collapsed on campus and was taken to a hospital where she died a short time later. I don't think they really know what happened just yet. She was only 22, my lord that seems so young. I didn't know her. I used to see her on campus every once in a while, she was 6'5 and well over two hundred pounds, so she was tough to miss, especially since I'm over a foot shorter than her. One thing I noticed, she always seemed happy. She just came across as a really friendly fun loving person. Of course, I only saw her walking around maybe a handful of times, but sometimes you can just tell when people are special, you know? Gosh, this has bothered me so much hearing the news this evening. It's really too bad, she had so much to offer and so many years to live. Not sure what to say, it's not like I knew her, but sometimes you hear something that is so sad that it takes a piece of you as well. Almost as if just knowing something so tragic can happen is enough to ensure that a person will never be the same again. The tragedy is pain enough in and of itself. That's how I feel right now. My heart goes out to her friends, teammates, family and loved ones.
