Hall of Famer Puckett suffers stroke

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Former Minnesota Twins center fielder Kirby Puckett had a stroke at his Arizona home Sunday and was taken to a hospital for surgery, the team announced from its spring training camp.

The 44-year-old Puckett, who led Minnesota to World Series titles in 1987 and 1991 and is a member of the Hall of Fame, was taken to a Scottsdale hospital.

"The Minnesota Twins and major league baseball ask fans to keep Kirby and his family in their thoughts and prayers," the team said in a statement.

I saw you in the 6th game of the 1991 World Series. You showed how an improbably shaped man could float up in the air and make an improbable catch. You showed how after 13 innings of play, you could hit the ball better than anyone.

I am a Cub fan, not a Twins fan, but I am also a baseball fan and Puckett was one of the good guys in baseball. Very sad day for the baseball world, and the Twin Cities as well.

...him, I heard this on ESPN radio. He was the Brett Favre of baseball. A guy that everyone loved as a person an opponent but when the game was on, they both played as hard as they could. I loved Kirby, I loved the way that he played the game. RIP Kirby.
