For Loyola, it was all about the banner.
It had seemed like an eternity since the last time the Ramblers won a sectional final and advanced to the Sweet 16.
On Friday night at Niles West, Loyola put an end to three decades of frustration, winning its first sectional title since 1976.
"To be able to put our name on that banner—that's all we were talking about all week," Loyola's Matt Steger said.
Loyola (27-3) overcame a 10-point deficit in the first quarter to beat Von Steuben 72-57 and advance to Tuesday's DePaul supersectional against Marshall.
Jeff Jordan scored 26 points and had 10 rebounds for the Ramblers, while Steger added 16 points and three steals. Matt Perkaus added 10 points. more at link but not much-->
