The way the negotiations were handled is nothing more than proof that Beltran had no intention of signing with Houston all along. It was all just a ploy to get the bucks out of one of the New York teams. I think that they wanted the Yankos but settled for the Mets.

Thanks for screwing us, Carlos. You could have told us to take a hike earlier in the offseason and let us sign someone who WANTED to play in Houston. Maybe we would have kept Jeff Kent as well instead of letting him go to free up finances for a run at you.

Call me crazy, but I think it's for the best. Beltran's career stats don't justify 100 million plus dollars. His heart is where the money is, not where the game is played.

He certainly has biases against certain teams and guides players towards organizations he likes.

If I recall correctly he convinced JD Drew not to sign with Philadelphia after they drafted him.

3. I don't think you can blame the players for playing the "game."

No, Beltran isn't worth that kind of money, but he knew that his playoff performance gave him a chance to get more than he's actually worth, and so he went after it.

It ain't pretty, but it ain't any different than how the teams treat the players either. It's all nasty games, and they're all to blame.

But then again, ever since that horrible day when ownership changed hands we've sucked. Sweeney gave them a chance, signed for good money but he could have gotten better and said build a team, then they did nothing. We'll probably fire Pena this year, and somehow they will spin it that he was a bad manager, news flash assholes, God would probably struggle to go 500 consistently with this team.

9. Can't see the Royals firing Pena anytime soon.

Pena's too popular of a manager -- sure that's not what matters, but he brings energy and perhaps can live at least another full season off of the magic of 2003. He couldn't do worse than Bob Boone or Tony Muser.

The main problem with last year was injuries. I've never seen a team so thoroughly decimated by injuries as last year's Royals were. Was there anyone on that team that WASN'T on the DL at some point?
