Seriously, there was NO coverage of this. One tiny little snippet of the locker room celebration on SportsCenter, and that was IT. Where is the love? I loved it when the Red Sox won, when the Cubbies almost made it, when the Rangers got a Stanley Cup after 40 years, etc. So why can't the sports world celebrate with me?

1. If it is not the Yankees or Red Sox forget about it
We don't exist west or south of Boston or New York. I remember Buck et al on the Fox ALCS coverage in 2002 could not stop bashing the HHH Metrodome, like he was insulted to even be there.

We never get any respect in the AL Central no matter what team is on top.

2. True, true
As a Red Sox fan, I think it's a shame how other parts of the league are totally ignored in favor of the Sox/Yanks rivalry. I'm also of the opinion that teams all over the country also lose out to coverage of teams from Florida.

Well, congrats to the Tigers. I hope they beat up on the Yanks if they get the chance.

5. Joe Buck is an asshole on so many levels
we couldn't begin to describe them here.

I listen to ESPN radio often and they give the Twins a lot of love. I think the Tigers have fallen off the radar a litle with their poor second half.

11. Joe Buck...
needs to be dumped, without ceremony or respect, from the chairs and booths he's been occupying, and, like, YESTERDAY! :puke:

My protest may not affect a soul other than me, but this is one viewer who is going to start missing TV broadcasts of games I really want to see if they don't get rid of that insufferable Joe Buck!

But on the more pleasant topic of the Tigers, I can guarantee ya *I* was sure celebrating with all Tiger fans!! I love those guys -- really!

As this regular season neared its end, I kept finding that all I could think about every time I watched the Tigers play or heard reports of scores was Al Kaline pissing my dad off so bad in 1968 that he nearly shot the TV set!

He coulda done that easily, since he was a state trooper and had sneaked away from the highways that day to see the game and his Cards. He was actually still wearing his service pistol the whole time!

Mom and I always picked whatever teams opposed his favorite teams just because that's what he would do -- and that's how life was in our sports-crazy family. But that year Pops was unbearably smug about the whuppin' the Cards were puttin' on the Tigers, and he kept laughing his "dirty old man laugh" in our faces when we chafed about the way things were going in the World Series.

He even bet AGAINST his Cards in the baseball pool on the job in one game because he thought he could make a few $$$ that way and he was dead certain there was no way the Cards could possibly LOSE the Series!

I learned a few new words when he stormed out the front door after Kaline brought his world crashing down, hehe. Left with a few choice ones for Mom and me, he did, and he didn't get over it real quick, either. giggle, snort

Would LOVE to see today's Tigers do very well this post-season!!

Great memories, worth a lot to a sports nut. ;)

And SHAME on the ones who should be covering their achievements in the news (it's their JOB, after all!) but who are ignoring them instead ... they've earned my hearty booooos. Their silence really is deafening, and I'm pissed about that fact.

Great going, Tigers! Keep showin' 'em what you are capable of!! :applause: :woohoo:

6. ESPN wrote off the Tigers about three weeks ago.
Now that the Tigers regained the MLB best record ESPN has had to eat crow,

They were picking the Sox to win the division and the Twins for the wild card and truly dissing the Tigers.

But you know how Detroit teams love the adversity so, bring it on!

7. Being from Pittsburgh - know how you feel
Only after the Steelers won a couple of Super Bowls did we get any respect. In World Series we were always written off and ignored.

Good Luck to Tigers and Jimmy Leyland - This Pirate and Steeler fan will be rooting for you to go all the way! I'm so sick of the Yankees and big market teams!

And Detroit you threw one helluva Super Bowl and party!

15. I've always had a soft sport for the Steelers and Pirates
When I was growing up, I'd watch MNF with my dad (and Monday Night Baseball, too). Back then, both the Steelers and Pirates were good and we'd watch those games. I remember riding the school bus and hearing the high school boys talk about the games, and always wanting to chime in, but thinking they would think it strange.

8. A locker room celebration for qualifying for the playoffs?
Considering they are in the middle of a heated race for a division title, who cares?

Its not getting the wild card after you're out of the division race, its celebrating clinching 2nd when you're in first.

10. Well the Yankees did it, the Twins did it, and Oakland did it
What's your point, LOL?

13. The Yankees celebrated a division title as did the A's.
My point is your bitching about coverage of a event that should not have been a champange splasher.

My other point is why bring out the bubbly when you've clinched a playoff spot and you are still neck and neck in a divisional race?

So did the Twins (who should know better) get coverage on ESPN?

14. I'm saying that they should have given it more than a moment's coverage
Apparently, it was a very moving scene. Leyland was in tears, Willie Horton was there, players were crying. That is the essence of sports - not whether you win it all or even if you are good year after year. It's fighting hard to come back from being a bad team. Sometimes the small victories mean a lot. It's like when those small schools make it to the NCAA tournaments and wave signs saying "we're going to the dance!" Everyone knows that those teams likely won't win the NCAA, but it's fun to see them celebrate.

Winning the World Series isn't everything. Working hard and succeeding, even if you don't end up on the very top, are good things too. It was by accounts of those who saw it, very touching. But, not good enough for ESPN apparently.

12. Congratulations, Tigers!!
Note to ESPN: Rumors that the world is round and there is something beyond the Hudson River are true. Check it out sometime.
