1. it's ok. a lot of us don't want him here anyways.
The program isn't cursed, just a few years of crap. But it will get better.
Roll Tide!

2. cursed in the sense of the pressure to win..
in a program with such a history. 10 wins isn't enough. titles are expected.

3. who do want, unsavedtrash?
I think I'd be happy with Saban, but after watching the Fiesta Bowl, maybe Mal should talk to Chris Petersen.

4. I like Petersen too. Heck, I even liked Stoops.
Another guy would be Paul Johnson. Mostly I wish MM would pick someone who seemed upbeat and excited about coaching here. Sadly so far the only guy that seems excited is Kines and there is no way he will get the job.

5. Sure, I'd love Stoops
Edited on Tue Jan-02-07 03:36 AM by Syrinx
I was just joking with RoyGBiv the other night about 'Bama getting Stoops. (Roy is a big Oklahoma fan, and a helluva nice guy.)

I think Saban actually would be excited about coaching here, and that the only thing that might be holding him back is personal loyalty to Wayne Huizenga, the Dolphins' owner. (I'm not sure I spelled his last name correctly.)

I think we'll have a quality coach in place by Friday, at the latest. At least I hope so.

If not we might be screwed on recruiting.

7. I hope he goes
I don't care for him in Miami anymore. I was a big believer at first, but his act has worn thin. His disdain for the media and cutting off access is okay when things are going well, but gets people pissed after a 6-10 season.

His "I'm not going to be the coach at Alabama" line will go down with infamous lies such as "Rumsfeld will be SecDef for the next 2 years.

Hopefully "St. Dick" takes the 40 mil and goes to the Tide.

8. Agreed, and take Mularkey with him
Saban deserves a small market for his massive ego. He's a snobby idiot in dealing with the media and it makes for the least interesting Dolphin seasons ever, and I've been a fan since the late '60s.

I stopped posting at a major Dolphin site in early September because of my disgust with Saban. No doubt I would have been banned if I had remained and posted my full opinion of him.

In a league with 32 teams and a salary cap and a common draft the chances of winning a title are exceptionally low. It's mostly about entertainment and Saban all but eliminates that aspect with his ignorant approach. There is not a threat of warmth with the guy. He's the only head coach of any of my favorite teams who disgusted me, regardless of on-field performance.

10. Who would go to Alabama after the way they treated Mike Price?
What a mass of hyprocrites.

I have no love lost for Saban either - an opportunist of the first rank.

13. I wouldn't have fire Price, but I can see Witt's side of it
Witt is the president of the University. Price embarassed the school publically and very badly with his lost weekend in Destin or Pensacola, or wherever it was. I would have given him a stern warning and a hefty fine, but I understand why Witt fired him.

14. I think Dolfans are missing the big picture here
Saban failed for the same reason Wannstadt failed for the same reason the next guy will fail:
Salary cap and free agency

Coaches in the league are handicapped and cursed by parity. It makes it hard to be successful and impossible to remain successful (Bill Clower)

More and more coaches are on the carousel anbd out to the colleges and broadcast boooth
