Dolphins' Taylor is Defensive Player of the Year
<snip>

"Jason Taylor has been named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year, beating out Denver Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey and San Diego linebacker Shawne Merriman.

Taylor proved this year he was not only Miami's most dominant player but one of the best players in the NFL.

The end who sometimes lines up at linebacker had 62 tackles, 13 ½ sacks, 14 quarterback hurries, two interceptions -- both returned for TDs -- 11 passes defensed, 10 fumbles forced and two fumbles recovered.

"It's great to win it," Taylor said. "My name gets to go next to it."

"But I don't play this game to win awards. I play the game to try to help the team win. . . . I would trade any award and every sack and every play I made this season and for the last 10 years to get a chance to go on and play here in February."

6. Jason Taylor returning to the Dolphins
<snip>

"Jason Taylor is returning to the Dolphins.

Speaking on the issue of retirement during a segment on ESPN's Sunday Countdown, Taylor said he would not be retiring at age 32, assuming the Dolphins incoming coach, whomever that is, wants him to return.

''I'm going to say it now, If he'll have me, I'll be there, fans,'' Taylor said. ``I'll be back in Miami if he'll have me.''

The Dolphins will have interviewed at least six coaching candidates by Sunday's end, but it is highly unlikely any coach wouldn't want Taylor back. He just had, arguably, his best season with 13 ½ sacks and two interceptions, which he returned for touchdowns.

The new coach isn't going to be want to lose Miami's best player."
