Mitch Mustain to transfer from Arkansas
Mustain of Springdale, AR, the freshman wunderkind QB who led the Hogs to 8 wins before being benched in favor of Sophomore Casey Dick has been granted permission to transfer to another school. While I wish him well and success whereever he goes, me thinks mommy's apron strings were just a little tight. He was a star in High School ergo he should be a star in College. Mommy and Daddy weren't happy with the direction the Hogs Offense was going. Great point. Why the hell use the talents of McFadden and his running game when you have a parade All America on the bench?? And to prove their point, McFadden didn't win the Heisman last year. Gosh, its a shame more parents don't get involved.

2. I haven't heard
that Malzhan is leaving Arkansas. I'd suggest he stay right where he is and build a reputation as an offensive coordinator at a big time program. And I haven't heard where Mustain will be heading. I'd suggest he stay away from a big time program. But I bet these guys don't listen to me.

This interview was before Mustain asked for and got his release.

5. Lots of press and sports talk in LR going nuts.
The Malzahn and Nutt combination was described as a "shotgun wedding" of opposites. Gossip is that the other assistants pretty much ostracized Malzahn. Malzahn's offensive philosophy (no-huddle spread) was opposite of Nutt's (boring, ineffective, run right, run left, pass when you are desperate, and repeat) strategy and philosophy.

I am about fed up with Nutt - you could tell he was not letting Malzahn have much say about the offense. There is enough talk out there to make you believe Malzahn was hired and the Springdale players were recruited under false pretenses.

There is no reason we could not have had both a great running game with Darren McFadden and Felix Jones as well as a killer passing game. Nutt just squelching the development of the quarterbacks and calling of pass plays.

Nutt needs to go, and I almost hope they lose 8 games next year just to get rid of him.

6. Amazing to me how Arky has parleyed an SEC West crown into.........
nothing this off season. Nutt came into the '06 season on the hot seat. After having such a good season one would think he'd be in good shape at least for now. Yet it seems due to the player defections he's right back on the hot seat again for '07.

Don't know what he promised those big time recruits last Feb. but frequently those promises backfire.

I read Urban Meyer's comments on the difference between his 1st season and his 2nd at Florida. Said the 1st year he was besieged by parents of players telling him what that Zook person promised their kid. Meyer said he told them all he was going to do what won games rather than what Zook promised. Some left but Meyer said in season #2 he had no parent problems anymore.

8. People are really splitting into camps in Arkansas over this.
Some people say "okay, if you don't want to be a Razorback and don't believe in the program, it's best for you to leave." Apparently, the players are behind Nutt, and are glad this episode is coming to an end. Two of four Springdale recruits left, and two are staying.

Then, you open the sports section of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette today and there is a half-page ad demanding the resignation of Houston Nutt and Frank Broyles. This group thinks the Malzahn and Mustain were the answer to Hog prayers to put the program into the elite of college football and maybe win a national championship.

Nutt better win big next year, is all I can say.

11. Hate to see that happen.........
should have parlayed a good to great season into something, perhaps better.

Read about those parents who visited Broyles to complain about Nutt. Thought Broyles handled it perfectly. Said he saw them as a courtesy only and the coach was the coach and he was in charge of his offense including his assistants. AD has to back his coach.

And BTW, I told a few Ohio State fans after the ass kicking Florida laid on them (82 friggin' total yards) that if they had any integrity they'd ship the '06 Heisman Trophy over to Fayetteville to it's rightful owner.

9. I read today that Nutt has the longest tenure of any BCS conference coach who doesn't
have a BCS bowl bid to their credit.
