instead of "jskass." It must have been a case of seeing what I expected to see. ;)
I can certainly understand the frustration when one's team is not the sentimental favorite for whatever reason. After 2001, if I recall, the New England Patriots were the sentimental favorite. Then there are teams that are hated for no good reason either (like my Cowboys!) Kass could have written a column that recognizes that frustration without complete insensitivity to what New Orleans has been through and without bringing up the Civil War.
I'll admit -- I'm rooting for the Saints. I've never been a Bears fan so I probably would have been rooting for any team that ended up playing them. Also, it's enough of a story that the Saints were 3-13 last year. But yes, being mostly neutral (I don't HATE the Bears,) I think New Orleans could use some good news, even if it's the outcome of something that is relatively unimportant like a football game.
What does he care anyway? No one is going to blame the Bears for playing their best game possible and if they win, it will still have been a great year for the Saints. No Bears fan has to apologize for wanting their team to win and while I don't listen to or read the sports press that much, I can't imagine that anyone is saying so.
