DC Teams Dominate in Futility
http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/bal-sp.maese13apr13,0,1211788.column?coll=bal-sports-headlines

Rick Maese, Baltimore Sun.

I know it's difficult to be a sports fan some days. From the cheap seats, the frustration can easily drip off your furrowed brow into a giant puddle of helplessness.

The owner refuses to pay the big contract. The general manager won't make the big trade. The player can't make the big play. It's all one big headache, right?

There's only one real solution: Find someone who has it worse and revel in his pain. And, trust me, for this little self-esteem boost, Baltimore has the best seats possible. Any sports fan here who can find fulfillment from someone else's frustration need only poke his head out onto the beltway and look south.

Suggested new motto for Washington: "We put the amateurism back into professional sports." {/i]

I post this for the final line: So Philly, Seattle, Milwaukee, Tampa and even Baltimore, you may think you know suffering, but pro teams in Washington are rewriting the book. This year, you don't need to rely solely on The New Republic to digest the damage wrought in our nation's capital. It has seeped onto the sports pages, too.

it's true, we suck. As the old saying goes, "First in war, first in peace, last in everything else."

The most dominant team in MLS.

2. who have lost three straight
and haven't won a game against an opponent north of Costa Rica since September.

fine, Chivas makes sense, but Kansas freaking City in the home opener? the boys are just not all that good right now, they should be, but they aren't. I mean they come into the season with the most experience in the off season, KC hasn't played a real game since September, DCU has played 8 since the last KC game, that should have made a difference.

3. 'Balmer" writers and fans hate DC teams
No surprise coming from there. I do believe the Nats had a better record than the Orioles last year. So what is this guy crowing about?

7. Yeah, that's really true. But their teams were often better....
Colts, Orioles, etc.

4. outside of the Ravens
what team from Baltimore did well? And the Ravens didn't even go as far as predicted in the playoffs. The Wizards are making the playoffs so right there DC equals Baltimore. And lets not forget that DC has some great College teams basketball and football. Geez sounds like sour grapes to me!

5. Uh, Rick? Cleveland on line one.
At least the Skins won three Super Bowls in the last 25 years.

Browns + Cavs + Indians = no titles in FORTY-THREE YEARS!!!

Futility? You couldn't taste it with Elway's coffee mug served at Jordan's restaurant by Craig Goddamned Counsell like we can.

Bad luck, all-star players picked up in the winter of their careers, promising talent getting traded off for stiffs, boneheaded trades, the absolute WORST overall collective draft luck (so bad not even a once-in-a-million player like LeBron can balance it out), passed up available draft choices that go on to be all-world (Brett Favre and LaDanian Tomlinson, anyone?), horrid sports management and ownership . . .

And when we do contend and field a decent team, either opposing teams always seeming to have that one missing piece of the puzzle that eludes us or we just flat-out choke like fiends . . . you name it, we've been there, done that and bought the T-shirt.
