Sailing: MacArthur closing on world record
Britain's Ellen MacArthur remains on course to complete her round-the-world voyage in record-breaking time.

At 1925 GMT on Monday, she was 59 miles from the finish line, and one day and eight hours ahead of Frenchman Francis Joyon's world record.

MacArthur must finish before 0704 GMT on Wednesday to beat Joyon's mark of 72 days, 22 hours, 54 mins and 22 secs.

The sailor is now expected to finish sometime between 2300 on Monday and 0100 on Tuesday.

I've been watching her career for a number of years now. I've been following this voyage since she left in November. Now there's only a few hours left for her to go!

Any other sailing fans here? I've been watching the Vendee Globe race online, too. A local sailor is cometing in that solo around-the-world race.

2. Been following it since Around Alone.
She's great.
I single hand my boat more often than not and I can't even imagine what that would be like. It always seemed that the worse things would happen at the worse time. Murphy.

5. That's Dame Ellen ...
The 28-year-old, who is to be made a Dame, looks set to sail into Falmouth Harbour in Cornwall at about 1100 GMT.

She crossed the finish line at 2229 GMT on Monday, completing her 27,348-mile voyage in 71 days 14 hours 18 minutes and 33 seconds.

She still hasn't reached the dock - there's a flotilla of over a hundred boats escorting her in.

6. She's back!
I was watching on the BBC as she stepped onto the dock in Falmouth.

An amazing flotilla of boats. Nick Maloney, her teammate who was sailing in the Vendee Globe race until his keel came off, was being interviewed and doing commentary.

THanks for the info on the "honour" of being made a Dame. My husband and I were just wondering if that had happened yet. We thought the Queen should do something. Good for Ellen!!!
