Superbowl Conspiracy?
Firstly, I did not watch the Superbowl; the accusations I am about to make are based upon conjecture and hearsay. I do know football and McNabb's record, I just didn't care enough to watch.

So, if I have anything wrong here, please let me know.


  1. Did the Eagles throw the game?
  2. The Declaration of Independence was read during the Fox pregame show.
  3. There was an inordinate number of overly patriotic commercials.
  4. The game itself was between the "Patriots" and the "Eagles"



  1. A coworker told me that he watched the game (a conservative, who dislikes *) and he said that the coach of the Patriots was enraged when the Eagles scored, even after the Patriots were significantly ahead; as though the Eagles were not supposed to score. He also said that the Eagles QB was doing great in the first half and then suddenly was doing worse than he had done all season.
  2. I find this bit of jingoism most disturbing. As far as I know the DoI has never been read during a football game. This article has great points about other bits of propaganda in the game. http://www.asianweek.com/2002_02_08/sports_superbowl.html

  4. I think it's "amazing" that the game was played between the two most "patriotic" teams in football and somehow the red, white and blue "Patriots" won.


Personally think this game was supposed to be the administrations crowning moment in sports. Sort of like the '38 Olympics for Hitler.

6. I have no stake in the outcome of the game.
The team I was rooting for was the Seahawks. And they were done weeks ago.

And I don't have to see it if news agencies report it. Maybe not the whole Eagles throwing the game part of it, but certainly the overall propaganda level.

I don't participate in professional sports because of the dirty money involved.
I will not spend my money to perpetuate a crooked sport. Give me college sports any day.

15. College vs Pro...
It is a lot easier to fix a college game than a pro game. Pros make too much money to be bought and would not risk their careers. You would have to get to the refs to fix a pro game.

College players, however, can be bought easily and cheaply. Throw an errant pass here or there, miss a basket every now and then.

For me, college sports, at the highlest level, are more crooked than professional sports.

yes fox sucks and they are a total tool of bushco and not surprisingly the networks and corporations scraped and bowed to shrub with their jingoistic crapmercials.

the eagles just got beat. quite typical started strong, made mistakes, the better team won in the end. but not by much.

i think its convenient that it the PATRIOTS winning in this particular time in history but just of coincidence not a conspiracy.


the declaration of independence is an indictment of both the old king george and his wannabe dumbling successor. cuts both ways.

The answers to your questions:

Im a big McNabb fan, watched all 4 years of his college career at Syracuse. -The patriots were never significantly ahead, in fact the eagles scored first. McNabb lost the game by throwing an interception in the 4th quarter against the best defensive secondary in the league. Most of the game was defense and field position.

As far as the obvious propoganda pre-game show, yea it was pretty nausiating, but what do you expect from Fox?? Your lucky we didn't see Hannity and O'Rielly in the press box.

All in all it was a very good game, and McNabb wouldnt risk his career and good name for the likes of money, especially when he's already rich. He'll be there again next year.

Trivia: Who was McNabb's favorite wide receiver at Syracuse?

There is nothing new about the Super Bowl being chockful of jingoistic, ueber-patriotic drivel. Second, the Patriots only won by 3 points. Belichick (Patriots coach) had every reason in the world to be pissed off about the Eagles pulling to within a field goal. It would have been suspicious if he didn't show emotion.

Well if you "knew it was bullshit" why did you bother reading the rest of it and posting?

As far as there be nothing new to the propaganda, I think there is. I think that it was far more out in the open this year and far more over the top.

As far as the Pat's coach being fine to flip out, I accept what you say. As I said I did not see the game and this was relayed to me by someone whose opinion I count and who has no reason to lie to me about it.

one year as far as I can tell.

McNabb has been in the NFL for six years, and Harrison for nine.

to someone on the sidelines so the ball would be taken out of the field. obviously, i'm not a football encyclopedia ;) but dh is and he agreed they needed to get the ball off the field.

The Declaration was read by former players and as each read their part they were identified by name and their affiliation with a charity. The "charities" represented by RWingnut former players and current politicians Steve Largent and Jack Kemp were "Focus on the Family" and "Empower America" respectively.

I was too busy marveling at all these black men reading the Declaration of Independence and wondering why in the world it was being read in the first place. Was it supposed to have something to do with Philadelphia? I didn't hear the introduction.

28. This might be the dumbest thing I've heard yet.
We lost the game in the first half by not going up by 21 as we should have. And that was because of Donovan's poor throws, which is something he never does. He never throws picks in the red zone. There was no conspiracy, the Eagles beat themselves.

Everyone on that field wanted to win but only one team can. The Patriots did 3 out of 4 years. They played better and won, simple as that. It's insulting to all the hard work the players and coaches on both sides put in to imply one of the teams would throw a game for such stupid reasons. Who comes up with this shit?

37. Why do people keep coming back to the notion that I somehow care who won?
I really don't care that much about football. I have a team or two I root for and watch if there is *nothing* else to do. I personally prefer Hockey as far as sports go.

And the reasons the game *might* have been thrown may not be so stupid. Who's to say that via intermediaries who knew nothing of the overall plan, payouts were made or threats levied.

35. No the article is pretty clearly about Sunday's game.
Note the date at the top: February 8 - February 14, 2002

And the second paragraph of the article:

Last Sunday, Super Bowl XXXVI rolled into millions of living rooms across the world. The game had the potential, like every other Super Bowl before it, to add to the folklore of game. But it did not happen. Not by a long shot.

Hello?

The current year is 2005, not 2002. Last Sunday's Super Bowl was XXXIX, not XXXVI.

There are other elements of the article clearly indicating it was not referring to the most recent Super Bowl.
