Isn't life good!?

K-Rod says Mets will win NL East

:spray:

AND I LOVE COLE HAMELS. IT'S LIKE I HAVE A TWIN OR SOMETHING!!

Associated Press
Updated: December 13, 2008, 5:40 PM ET

NEW YORK -- Francisco Rodriguez has a message for the Philadelphia Phillies and the rest of the NL East.

"Of course, we're going to try to win the division. Of course, we're going to be the front-runner. Of course, we're going to be the team to beat," he said Saturday.

Four days after agreeing to a $37 million, three-year contract, K-Rod was confident the Mets will put consecutive September collapses behind them and overtake the World Series champion Phillies in ruling the NL East.

"I don't want there to be a controversy or the other ballclubs in that division to take it personally or take it in a bad way," he said. "If they ask me, 'Oh, which ballclub is going to win the National League East?' It's going to be the Mets. Easy question."

In 2007 and 2008, the Mets treated their fans much the same way Lucy dealt with Charlie Brown trying to kick a football: They promised everything would be different this time only to yank the ball away at the end. September leads evaporated, and they were eliminated on the last day of the regular season.

On Thursday, Phillies ace Cole Hamels took a shot at the Mets.

"For the past two years they've been choke artists,"
he said on WFAN radio.

Philadelphia's Jimmy Rollins began the verbal sparring before the 2007 season when he said the Phillies were the team to beat in the division -- even though the Mets came within one win of reaching the World Series the previous year.

"Everybody knows what happened, unfortunately. They didn't get the job done. Unfortunately, you know, it happens," Rodriguez said Saturday from Venezuela during a conference call. "We cannot be living with the past. We've just have to get that behind us and get focused."

2. K-Rod might have to try and get more than 3 outs in a game with the Mets...
...he might be a bust.

3. face it, the Mets ARE the better team
they blew so many games last year, but blowing them means they were ahead until the 8th, 9th inning.

You take HALF the Mets blown games last year and they win the division by at least four or five games.

5. The Mets "ARE" a better team? Not just "are" a better team
but they're so good, you actually bold faced "ARE." :eyes:

I think I'm going to start telling people the SF Giants ARE the better team when it comes to a face to face match-up against Anaheim's 2002 WS Champion team.

Because after all, .. it's not who wins a ring .. it's who's best on paper.

:sarcasm:

GO METS!

6. the facts tell the story
put KRod and Putz on last year's Mets team instead of their closer-by-committee, you'd have the Mets winning the division easily.

Their bullpen was the reason the Phillies were able to take the Division and get in the playoffs and thus win the WS.

Improve the Mets bullpen, like they did, and you'll see things change.

I fully expect the Mets to win 93-94 games this year and take the Division...at least six or seven games ahead of the Phillies.

7. Mets fans are just adorable.
You're living on the moon, but simply adorable none the less.

Hey Magic Rat,

Anyone who knows just a little bit about baseball would say the Cubs were the best NL on paper team last year. Most wins, just loaded seemingly at all positions, but that didn't get them shiite, did it?

Now here you are trying to tell all of us how good the Mets .. renown for choking .. are on paper.

So what's the moral of the story?

Mets fans should be the one of the last people to make predictions.

You could turn out to be right, because they look good.

But I wouldn't wager a nickel on them at the Thunder Valley Casino sports book 10 minutes from where I live.

9. A liitle assistance please
Do "better" teams blow "so many games"?

Hamels wasn't stirring the pot, he was telling the truth.

8. It's nice to still be talking baseball in December.
It's even nicer being the Champs. Fuck the Mets. Santana was supposed to save them last year, Wagner the year before. Let's see what happens K-Rod, you just walked under a black cloud.

10. K Rod and Jose Reyes on the same team...
:puke: :puke:

But yes, it's good to be the Champs. And like Hamels said, we'll always consider them choke artists until they prove otherwise :fistbump:
