Karl Malone will announce his retirement at a news conference Sunday in Salt Lake City, an NBA spokesman said today.

Malone had been debating whether to sign with the Spurs for the remainder of the season.

Tim Frank, the NBA’s vice president of basketball communications, said Malone will make his retirement official on Sunday.

he retired because he couldn't raise his knees to lethal hieghts on his layups any longer...

Mixed reaction for me - I have loved to hate him for so long, but my beloved Spurs were close to signing him. He would've been an interesting addition for the remainder of the season...

Now where the hell did I put my Karl pinata?

4. I'm glad our beloved Spurs
didn't sign him, to be honest.

I don't want our chemistry messed with. Once everyone heals up, we'll be just fine.

I do kinda wish we could do something with Malik's contract, though...much as I love him, we've got Luis Scola coming in next year. Although Horry may be retiring if we win again, so there's some space there.

Plus, we'll need some cap room to sign Devin Brown.

Do you realise this entire team is on the verge of being signed for the next 6-7 years? Amazing job by Pop and RC.
