The SEC...the top conference
Is there really a question any longer? That's now 3 straight national championships..even the SEC's detractors must give the conference it's due. The best football in the nation is played in the SEC.

Meanwhile, considering the Big 12's bowl season performance, it's obvious the conference was overrated.

Pac 10 5-0
SEC 6-2
Big East 4-2
C-USA 4-2
MWC 3-2
Big 12 4-3
Sun Belt 1-1
ACC 4-6
WAC 1-4
Big Ten 1-6
MAC 0-5

1. The SEC is good, but it wasn't up to it's own standards this year.
Next year might not be great either with all the new coaches. However, the SEC recruits better than any conference out there, so the teams will always be dangerous.

11. I tire of the whole argument......
Who cares which conference is best? Bad conferences can have great teams and bad teams can have great players. Also, the evaluation is odd. If a conference has the top 3 teams in the country but 9 other awful teams are they the best or not?

It's a silly thing to argue about, IMO.

I'm an SEC guy but I thought The QB's in the Big 12 were friggin' great this year. I saw USF play Kansas back in Sept. and that Kansas QB, Reesing, was nearly flawless and no one even talks about him with McCoy and Harrel and Bradford in that league.

3. Considering I was rooting for the Gators last night
I rather enjoyed it. However, I think USC should have been there instead of OU.

20. Why do you keep asking Upton if he roots for Seattle?
He lives there but is from NORCAL and has already told you he roots for Bay Area teams.

I mean, that would be asking me why I didn't root for the Braves when I lived in Tennessee.

No, you root for the team you grow up with no matter where you move.

I think you just like pushing people's buttons.

Yea, I thought so Romo.

Can we expect you to get carried away--- another words get excited about your team?

19. Ummm, well, it they beat Buffalo twice, Kansas City, Oakland,
Seattle, St. Louis -- you know, horrific teams like that .. I'm not sure that's an appropriate measuring stick of progress and success.

How bout you?

7. Best by default
Not because the SEC was fabulous (any conference where those Alabama posers could go undefeated in the reg. season isn't fabulous) but because the other conferences fell away.

Big 12 and Big 10 didnt step up in postseason
Pac-10 had one super team and two good teams in Oregon and Cal but got outplayed by the Mountain West in the reg season (plus they had Wash and Wash St)

8. The SEC had a great bowl season, but I think the "depth" of the SEC was shallower this year compared
to past years. This was a down year for UT, Auburn, SC, and Arkansas.

Also, the second best SEC team lost to Utah.

13. The Pac-10 is best
It's that old East Coast bias that is pervasive in all the team sports. Half the country doesn't really get to see Pac-10 teams enough to know what they can do. There needs to be more games between the Pac-10 and the SEC and then it would be clear that Pac-10 is best. I bet Oregon could have beaten Oklahoma. Oregon St. is one of the most underrated teams in the country. They're the only team to beat USC and if the Trojans had played an SEC team that week instead of Oregon St., they'd still be #1 today. Pac-10 5-0 in bowl games. 'Nuff said.

16. The East Coast bias screwed Utah too.
No one saw Utah play until the Sugar Bowl, but by then it was too late.

The biggest beneficiary of the PAC-10's lack of exposure is the Big Ten. Their teams get more TV coverage and higher rankings than they deserve and the extra BCS bowl bids that should be going to the PAC-10. The Big Ten is, in effect, taking the BCS money away from the PAC-10.

22. Utah needs to get out of that conference... That's where the bias comes from.
Let em play in the PAC 10--- or hell---throw them in the SEC for kicks.

18. The Pac 10 is good, but their bowl record is misleading.
The SEC played 5 teams that ended up in the Top 25, and 2 of those teams ended up in the Top 5. The Pac 10 didn't play a single Top 5 team, and only 3 who were ranked in the Top 25. The SEC puts more players in the NFL, and this year the SEC had 4 head coaches that had won a National Championship. Ask any NFL scout who has the best conference - 9 out of 10 will say The SEC.

You can't tell me that the USC that slopped around and generally stunk against Oregon State could have beaten Florida or Alabama on the road that night. They played a terrible game.

23. Merely the conference with the best PR reps and most allies in the BCS...
...Florida beat the SECOND best team in the Big 12...running on reputation, not reality now.
