5. Here is part of the article
Sammy was hanging around in the post office and a customer complained. This is a small town of about 1,000 people.

<snip>

Sammy's supporters have gathered outside the post office with hopes of getting the cat back in the building.

It started when one upset customer sent a letter to the postmaster. "They said this is a federal building and Sammy doesn't pay taxes so he can't come in," says postal worker Rochelle Langford.

Now residents are all joining forces to get Sammy back inside and legendary Auburn football coach Pat Dye is leading the march. "We ain't worried about football," says Dye. "We're worried about the cat."

Dye's getting plenty of help. Sammy now has a mailbox at the post office, courtesy of a supporter.

Late Friday, postal officials took down the sign banning Sammy the cat. They will, however, try to keep him outside most of the time.

2. Only taxpayers are allowed in post offices?
The initial premise was just weird. Now, if the idiot letter writer had said some people with severe cat allergies might be harmed, that would have made sense. Or if the cat was spraying on the packages. But not a taxpayer? AND THEY AGREED?

9. Marking for later.
If we can house an thug and his puppet in the WH for 8 years, we can house a cat at a post office.

10. Whereas in Japan, they made a train station cat honorary stationmaster
she's become a tourist attraction!

http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/asiapcf/10/29/japan.station.cat/index.html

Tama's home of Kishikawa in Japan is an isolated town of just a few thousand people, the last stop on what had been a failing train line.

That all changed when the Wakayama Electric Railway decided to use Tama as a mascot.

They called her a "Super Stationmaster," made a promotional poster for train carriages and gave her that stationmaster's hat.

Now tourists flock here to see the cat and to snap a picture.

14. I need to drive over there sometime and check out Sammy.

I've met Coach Dye a few times, but haven't seen him in several years. I live less than 20 miles from that little town. Coach Dye has a beautiful 600-acre ranch near there with lakes, lodges, and a beautiful house he built using cedar trees and rocks from his own property. Despite his somewhat grumpy appearance at times, he is quite a conservationist and environmentalist. One of his best friends during his coaching days was Michigan coach Bo Schemblecker. The two would visit each others spring practices and compare notes. I saw the 1984 Sugar Bowl between those two, and it was trench warfare with Auburn winning 9-7. Typical game for those two "old school" coaches.

16. Report in, when you do, Elwood
I would love to hear about Sammy. Hopefully, you run into Coach Dye, too. Man, I loved those old "typical" games. Love to see a great D over a great O.
