If I were to be reborn as a sports fan, I admit I'd root for

Philadelphia

I love to ridicule and bash my teams unless they win, and everyone knows Philly fans, aka the boo birds, invented that.

I like it. I get a lot of dirty looks sometimes at Giants games from the fans who think it's just wonderful enough being at a game, even if the team is sucking it up.

I don't put up with that, and I know they don't in Philadelphia.

They don't put up with welcoming visitor fans at their stadiums and sports bars. You take your life in your own hands in fact. I like that.

Will always find something to complain about, even after a win. We should have beaten them by more than 3 runs. We suck!11! I like that.

And for all of these reasons and more, I can see why Philly fans are so irritating to every else.

But deep down inside, I admire their passion and they way they do things at games.

Just don't tell anyone.

HA

Hi Sue, throwing snowballs at Santa Claus is part of our charm. And Ole Santa survived that incident way back in 1968.

I am rather docile but I have been to some Eagles games in the Old Vet (wearing my Eagle regalia) and even my fellow Eagle Fans scared me.

6. Ahh the 700 Level
Some of the fights and the drinking up there were EPIC! I've been to the Bank but not the Linc, I hear the Linc is crazy but not as crazy as the Vet used to be. Some of the stories I tell to the Hoosiers I live and work with just spin their heads.

We aren't crazy, we're passionate and knowledgeable. And we don't suffer fool sports management badly.

And that Santa business is just sooooooo 60s. If folks could have seen the team back then, they'd have thrown snowballs TOO! JOE MUST GO!

9. Hey Voltaire, I was a proud member of the 700 Club
for Phillies games in the Vet back in the 80's. We could sit in the 700 section for a buck by showing our military ID's. We went to an Eagle-Saints game in the Superdome back in the early 90's. It was a night game and I thought the Eagle fans were going to destroy the stadium before the game started.

Holding my breath for a twofer this year. Billy Penn could use another parade.

19. No, I said my personality is most conducive to being
a Philadelphia fan, and that's the side I should probably be on if there was a do-over.

I did not articulate a "strong and intense" desire switch allegiances.

There's a difference.

I'm faithfully devoted to San Francisco Bay Area sports.

and... and... and... nothing. Just a few stray Eagle fans strolling through the Quarter with their replica jerseys, mainly McNabb and Westbrook. Not a battery nor even a go-cup was thrown.

As it turned out, maybe the Iggles could have used a little mayhem.

Even if I desired to do so, it was nearly impossible to acquire 'Aints gear outside the region prior to the arrival of one Mr. Reggie Bush.

Now I actually see it out here, most recently right after I got out of "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" -- which, of course, is set in NOLA. The gentleman must have been quite surprised to hear a total stranger tell him "Who dat?" :-)

Sure, booing Santa and a guy's 2 year old places them high in the ranks of booing experts, but outside of the Phillies they didn't even HAVE teams until the 60's. Before that they just booed each other randomly.

34. Actually, I wasn't comparing them to Boston.
For the most part Boston fans will respect a hard working guy no matter which team he plays for. I like players on both the Canadiens and Yankees, and respect both organizations in a lot of ways. Boston was easy on Barry compared to other stops.

I'll never even begin to deny that we can be obnoxious fucks out here, especially given the amazing run the city has been fortunate enough to go through lately, but any city is that obnoxious when they have success. Hell, Jets fans are still obnoxious because of Namath.

My point was just that there have been plenty of "boo birds" long before Philly made it an art form. I remember Canadiens fans booing (whistling actually, which is how they boo) because they gave up a shot on net early in the game one night back in the 70's (and you wonder why I hate them..I used to call the Bruins visits to Montreal a success if the B's even crossed the Habs blueline).

And no comment about my fav NFL team, the Cowboys :hide:

I root for:
-Lakers
-Kings
-Dodgers
-UCLA
-USC (only for football, I blame my friend in HS for making me start to like the Trojans the year Carroll stepped in. I also blame Bob Toledo for being the worst football coach not named Norv Turner)
-the French National soccer team
-I occasionally follow Arsenal and Saint Etienne (where I was born)

Why wouldn't you be a Raider fan (since the team actually played there)?

And if you hate Northern California, why wouldn't you be a Charger fan??

Or a Bronco fan or a Seahawk fan or a Cardinal fan -- all closer than Texas.

The only thing worse than a Cowboy fan is a Cowboy fan that doesn't live in DFW or isn't from there.

63. I became interested in sports in 1994 and 1995
I liked all the teams my dad liked, and he didn't watch football. So the first game I watched was the Niners trouncing SD in the SB, but for some reason I didn't latch onto those teams.

I do like the Raiders, but for some reason I loved the Cowboys, I can't explain it other than they must have had a ton of televised games in that 1995 season.

70. You should come to DC sometime,
and you'll see just as many Cowgirls fans as Redskins fans. It's almost an even playing field, which is why it pays to be the only Ravens fan in my neighborhood. I look at them and laugh my fuckin' head off!

71. LA used to be a haven for niners fans
But now it's a mish mash of Raider fans, Boys fans, and the rest are flavor of the monthers or hometown loyalists.

72. I have to disagree with you
Out here where I live its about a 10-1 margin Skins to Cowboys fans. Frankly I believe there are more Giants fans here than Dallas fans. Game days, I almost never see anybody in Dallas gear.

60. I'm from Philadelphia
And I remember how horrified I was when I moved briefly to Indiana. I was watching the local, post-news football show they had on Sunday nights. The Colts had just finished a 1-15 season, and the co-host of the show was a Colts OL who, in addition to talking about the game, took calls from the fans. And a couple people called in and said, "Oh, it's OK that you went 1-15 this year. You'll do better next year. And we still love you."

And I just thought, WTF? This is one of the worst teams ever to play the game and the fans are saying "we still love you"? It was an insult to my Philadelphia sensibilities.

Anyhow, I do love the passion of the Philadelphia fans. I just wish some of their nastiness wasn't rooted in racism, but it was that way when Randall was QB and it still is with Donovan.
