In Defense of PETA
This morning I was flipping throught the channels and came upon the 1st and 10 segment of First Take, the ESPN sports show. The guests and moderator were talking about the request made by PETA that Michael Vick take a mental exam before being allowed to return to the NFL. The three guests took the side of Michael Vick and claimed that PETA was being stupid. I know PETA has said the stupid things, but I do not think this comment was one of the stupid ones. I do not see what is wrong with PETA calling for Vick to have a mental exam before he is allowed to return to the NFL. If Vick is deemed mentally fit then there is no problem with him rejoining the NFL. If Vick is deemed memtally unfit then he could either get help or just be kept out of the NFL. It is not like PETA is asking Vick and the NFL to jump through hoops. It is not like PETA is asking for Vicks future salary to be turned over to a dog shelter, or for him to have to do community service for the rest of his career. It just does not seem like too much to ask for Vick to take one mental exam in order to play football again. So, what do others think?

1. I hope PETA hounds Vick (no pun intended).
As far as this goes, my guess is that Vick already had one done. And while I'm no expert, I don't think he'd be mentally unfit to play. It's the NFL...if Satan could get 5 yards a carry every team would be after him.

Shame on the league, and any team, that takes him back though.

2. Joey Porter needs one too

Not only did he defend Vick, claiming.."they were only dogs" but, in 2006, 2 of Porter's own dogs got loose killing a neighbor's miniature horse.

This culture of pit bulls, dog fighting and a distressing lack of compassion seems to be present throughout the NFL, going a whole lot deeper than Michael Vick.

4. Check this out

"The dog is going to be a reflection of the owner," said Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter, who has owned a pit bull and bull mastiff. "You grab a mutt off the street and you teach that mutt to be mean, then that mutt is going to be mean. ... I don't too much care for a passive dog."

Sounds to me like Porter trains his dogs to injure if not kill, the results of which we saw with the miniature horse

I've got neighbors with pure bred German Shepard---- and God forbid if someone breaks into their home.

I guess they're bad people to?

9. Believe it or not
the miniature horse was not attempting to break into Porter's home. The fact that he raises his dogs to display this sort of nasty temperament, then releases them to roam the neighborhood in search of prey, speaks volumes about Porter as a person.

12. Are you sure the miniature horse wasn't trying to break in---
There have been reported instances of that happening---just Google miniature horse break ins.

8. I don't like Vick at all.
HOWEVER the science behind what PETA wants is VERY questionable at best..brain scans aren't really a good way to do a psychological evalutation. Should he have a psychological work up done? Most likely. But to subject someone to something thats not quite kosher scientifically..no fucking way. Its like deciding to put someone in the electric chair based on a polygraph alone. Nope.

10. Vick's a fucking asshole. Should NEVER be allowed in the NFL..
..again. So is Porter. You torture animals. Plain and simple. That's what this is. There are humans I'd kill over any animal. There is NO defense for these fucks. NONE.

11. Given the nature of the offense, Im sure he has had many mental
exams and that therapy will be a condition of parole.
