3. Except the only other "LT," LaDanian Tomlinson...
...is currently pulling a "Reggie Bush," i.e. "Not As Good As Advertised."

Ergo, the only other "LT" will fade from memory soon enough.

Leaving only the one "LT."

Lawrence Taylor.

;)

4.  Tomlinson won the 2006 MVP award
Plus, he

Holds the all-time NFL record for single season touchdowns (31).

Holds the all-time NFL record for single season rushing touchdowns (28)

Holds the all-time NFL record for the most points scored in a single season (186)

Holds the all-time NFL record for most consecutive games with a rushing touchdown (18)

Holds the NFL record for most consecutive multi-touchdown games (8).

Tomlinson is not only guaranteed to be remembered, he's guaranteed to be a Hall of Famer.

There's more than one LT.

23. Do you really want to compare Brady and Tomlinson's career playoff numbers?
Look, I can't fault Tomlinson for getting hurt, it happens, but as someone who seems to be hurt in the playoffs every year, it's doesn't help his legacy.

25. He had 1 good game in the loss against the Pats in '06.
The Jets game in '04 wasn't very good (not awful, but nothing special for a player of his abilities), and his game last year against Tennessee (21 Attempts for 42 yards and 1 TD) wasn't good at all.

He's so good during the regular season people expect something special from him in the playoffs, but he has yet to deliver and people remember that when you retire.

Only thing is, Lawrence Taylor should have moved to patent his initials.

9. It's all generational
Sports enthusiasts over 30 years of age will see Taylor as the true LT, those under 25 will view Tomlinson as the true LT because they never saw Taylor play. And so will it be in fifteen years that people who are now under the age of 10 will think of Lance Tomkiewicz the one true LT...after he leads the Las Vegas Jets to a Super Bowl victory, that is.

To me, that's James Taylor.

To my daughter's generation its Justin Timberlake.

11. Lawrence Taylor changed the way the outside linebacker position is played.
As great as Tomlinson has been, even he hasn't stood out the way Taylor did. For those of you that never got to see him play, the one word that would best describe him is "terrifying". Absolutely terrifying. In fact, Joe Gibbs created the H-Back position specifically to account for LT.

15. More relevantly, perhaps, he changed the way OFFENSE is played.
Edited on Mon Jan-26-09 02:20 PM by BlooInBloo

EDIT: Reggie White might - just might - be a match for LT in terms of talent, but LT surpasses Reggie in terms of overall effect on The Game Of Football.

13. LT (LaDainian Tomlinson) has scored the most touchdowns by anyone under 30...
He is set to outpace EVERYBODY. The dude will be in Canton - probably with a more impressive record than LT the 1st.

All this, and he didn't even break Theismann's leg! (Skinsfan bias showing through.)

Ergo, LT = Lawrence Taylor, but it ALSO = LaDainian Tomlinson.

Discuss.

16. Pikachu could have had that many sacks if he was as coked out as LT.
And the only flaw in this theory is that I'm not entirely sure that Pikachu is a he.

19. True but he still never gave me an autograph.
:( I was 8, didn't know much at that age. Stood in line near the end of the arena (at a charity basketball game) to get his autograph. I put out my pen and paper, and he told me "You have to open the pen"...

I had the cap on. He walked right by me. I cried. :(

So Tomlinson has a jawbreaker of a name; doesn't mean you get someone else's nickname.

Only will ever be one LT. You can't steal another man's nickname. Tomlinson can be L-Tom. There's no other L-Tom.
