channel surfing, I went right by tennis because it is usually a battle of no-names. And I had just read in the paper that Serena was playing in the finals. Instead I was watching "Eddie and the Cruisers". :argh: That makes me feel crazy makes me feel so mean.

I did feel a bit bad for Safina, she got blown out of there. She seems like a nice kid, and she will be winning slams in her future.

The Fed is going for 14 Grand Slams like Sampras so he is very focused, but Nadal has had the better of him recently. The Fed cruised in his semi and won in three, while Nadal's semi was a five set marathon (the longest match ever in the OZ open well over 5 hours) so the Fed should be the fresher of the two. That said, both hate losing and Nadal wants to keep his #1 rating.

I expect a five set marathon, but I don't have a favorite. My favorite has already won - Serena. :hi:

How can you begin to play someone when you have that on your mind??
I never count either one of them out of a match until their bags are packed and they are walking out of the court!!

Some people mourn the fact that they didn't play as constantly as others. I would have liked to have seen them more, but I wonder if it would have been as good for them. We may see more of them at a later age because they didn't wear themselves out.
People like to beat on their father and he does say some interesting things. However, the man knew how to develop his kids. He didn't bow to the junior circuits.
I think they are not only great players, but great ambassadors for the sport and for the USA. Nobody has represented the US with more class at the Olympics.

14. Mary Carillo was attacking her commitment this morning

but Bud Collins gave her a tongue lashing and pointed out that their parents ensured that they knew there was more to life than tennis. He mentioned their involvement in social projects like the school in Kenya, as well as their all round intelligence.

Richard Williams is an unsung hero - he over-turned all the theories about developing great tennis pros.
One of my good friends was in England in 2000 for cricket and the match finished early so they headed to Wimbledon to see if they could get tickets. Richard was outside and started speaking with them. When he heard their Jamaican accents, he arranged for them to pick up centre court tickets from his complimentary lot. They had great seats for the semis and finals - just like that. :D

The Williams are treated like royalty in Jamaica.

15. Good on Bud Collins!!

I think everyone should just chill and see how things work out in the end. I think they have had a much better life than people like Andrea Jaeger and Jelena Dokic. That counts for a lot.
They have enjoyed their careers in tennis a lot. I wonder if other players can say the same thing.
