Barry Bonds, it's time to stop lying......

Well, if we're yelling at Clemons, we might as well include Bonds.

I haven't noticed any "yelling" at all directed towards Clemens. In fact, the Clemens thread was met with apathy more than anything else.....I wonder if Bonds will suffer the same fate?

11. The bat throwing incident is an interesting example
can you imagine the outcry if Bonds had thrown part of a bat at Piazza...you would have heard the screams of hate at the top of Mt Everest. However, with Clemens, more often that not it was cited as an example of Roger's competitiveness.

That same double standard has translated to the steroid issue. We can debate as to why it exists but there is no question in that it does.

in NYC there was serious outrage at the roidrage roger through at Mike Piazza.

The last part of your last sentence is what applies: "There is no question in(sic) that it does"

In that respect Upton I agree.

7. Well, Bonds made his own bed with the media...
Bonds was entertaining as usual. Asked directly whether he'd ever used illegal substances, he said:

"I'm not a child. You repeat those things to children and then eventually they tell you. I don't."

In Bonds' first public comments since his grand jury testimony was leaked to the San Francisco Chronicle and reported in December, he had nothing to say about it, citing legal constrictions. But he had harsh words for the media and fans still consumed by the circumstances of his record-setting home run binge.

"You guys are like re-running stories," Bonds said to more than 100 reporters in attendance. "This is old stuff. It's like watching 'Sanford and Son.' It's almost comical, basically. ... Are you guys jealous, upset, disappointed, what?"

8. By citing the reason for the unfair treatment
of Bonds, you've admitted that it does in fact exist. I've heard the justification you layed out on countless occasions..but is it right?

Here we have 2 players, both unquestionably with Hall of Fame numbers..

On one hand, we have the white man... agreeable, complete with a glib tongue and a ready smile

Then , we have the black man.. anti social, arrogant, and obnoxious

Are those differences sufficient reasons to create 2 sets of standards for the same crime?

In my mind the answer is no.

13. Erm, no. Logic fail. Bonds is just an asshole, black or white.
I'm saying that Bonds got treated like he did by the media because he freakin' BEGGED for it. He's an asshole. Always has been, always will be. And that knows no color. When you treat the media like that, and it turns out you were a bald-faced liar the whole time, you'd better be ready to face the music.

Really, the best defense you have is that he's black so he was abused by the media? Totally ignoring how antagonistic and arrogant he was towards that same media before the hammer came down? If you'd at least acknowledge that you may be able to save some shred of cred here.

14. If you'd make at least a token attempt
to read my post, you would see that virtually all of the words I used to describe Clemens and Bonds had nothing to do with race. Lets try it again, omitting the 2 words that you have focused on ..

On one hand, we have Clemens... agreeable, complete with a glib tongue and a ready smile.

Then, we have Bonds.. anti social, arrogant, and obnoxious.

Okay, lets just go with that..are you comfortable that a double standard exists based on those differences? And if you are..why? Being an asshole, IMO, is not justification enough to be treated differently from another who is guilty of the same crime.

17. Clemens Is Agreeable And Glib?
When did that happen? He's been an arrogant jerk the whole time he's been well-known.

I think your facts are skewed. Rather badly, i might add.

The idea that Clemens was somehow not vilified for the Piazza incident is laughable. I don't even live on the East Coast, and i'm no Mets fan (actually a Mets hater) and then was NOTHING but condemnation in the papers and on sports radio for that action. So, to suggest that he didn't take heat is just silly.

It seems obvious that Clemens used steroids, but started using them later so we didn't see as dramatic changes in his physique and bone structure. So, he wasn't suspected for as long as Bonds.

But they're both liars and they've both been considered arrogant jerks for a long time.

So, your defense falls flat.

Edited on Wed Feb-04-09 08:37 AM by Hobarticus
I read your post, and I disagree with it. No need to get snarky.

And apparently you didn't read your own post, since you dragged race into this in the first place.

Of course there's a difference. This whole discussion is about unfair media treatment. If Clemens is agreeable and pleasant while under investigation, he's going to be treated differently than an obnoxious jackass like Bonds.

They both lied in front of a grand jury. Both of them are in a lot of trouble. Both of them will pay the price for that. One was smart to keep his piehole shut and smile for the cameras, the other traded insults with the media. One is getting what's coming to him from the media because he's an obnoxious belligerent asshole, not any more than the other guy is, but especially so after this came to light. Not a crime, but I'm not weeping any tears as they rake him over the coals. You reap what you sow.

If Bonds is being treated unfairly by the authorities, which I don't believe he is, then what did he expect? That he could publicly act like a total jackass once he was under suspicion for anything and not have that affect how he was treated during the investigation?

16. LOL
Here we go Bonds crying again. He's made a whole career out of lying. He lies more than King George and that's saying something.

The reason the press is all over him is because nobody can stand him. Everywhere he's played, his teammates hate his guts. Anyone who knows him well knows what a jerk he is. The biggest LOL moment came several years ago when he was complaining in an interview to stop asking him those questions around his kids while at the same time surrounding himself with his kids during all interviews, holding them like human shields against those mean reporter's questions. You made your bed, Barroid, when you decided to go with the HGH. You had to be the best at all costs. Now you gotta lie in that bed. Great example you're setting for your kids, dumbass.
