Ted Williams was a hardass conservative. But everybody here should read...
his take on the Vietnam War from "My Turn At Bat."

He talks about his anger at being recalled for Korea because if it wasn't important enough for everyone to go, he shouldn't have had to go, again. He uses this same view towards the Vietnam War. If it's not important enough for everybody to go, nobody should go.

My thoughts about the current wars. If the Bush, Romney, etc. kids didn't go, no one should have to go. Not a dig at the twins, but at their dad.

1. Problem With the Arguement
I myself do not really dsagree with on that point, but I think there is at least one small problem with that point. Since we have an all volunteer military you cannot really blame the parents of the kids who did not go to Iraq. Who is to say that the Bush and/or Romney kids decided they did not want to go to the military. Since we have an all volunteer military Bush really could not force his kids to go the Iraq. If Bush had drafted kids and then decided that his daugthers should not be drafted than I would say your arguement is right. However, there was no draft. Noone was forced to join any branch of the military.

That is not to say I supported the Iraq War; I did not. However, I do not think anyone can really blame Bush or anyone else for certain kids not going to Iraq. I do not think there was really anyway that Bush or any other parent could have forced their kid(s) to go to war or join the military.

2. Maybe the point is that unless everyone needs to be involved in the war...
...then there should be a war, and if not, resolve the conflict some other way.
