2. You tell me why they wouldn't take that deal with L.A.
It's either the Dodgers or the Giants Manny.

Nobody else is stepping up.

And the Giants have already said they're not signing off on all of your bullshit demands.

3. He will take the deal...
He just wants to avoid as much of spring training as possible, that's why they're dragging it out.

4. I like the poll in today's L.A. Times

Your Vote
What should the Dodgers do next, now that Scott Boras has rejected their latest offer to Manny Ramirez?

55%
Pull the offer and forget about signing Manny. Their offer was more than fair.

32%
Keep the offer on the table, but don't increase it.

13%
Increase the offer. They need Manny more than Manny needs them.

6. I like the results, but they'll keep the offer on the table...
They may tweak it a little just to save face and say it's "not the same deal". Manny always showed up late for spring training with some excuse. If I recall correctly, he was late for "immigration issues" one year, which is certainly an understandable excuse as foreign players can have problems dealing with all the paperwork and such. It was a little flimsy for Manny, though, since he was already in Florida and became a US citizen in 2004.

However you've got that wrong when you suggest Barry Bonds is God... but you will be saying Bonds is innocent by the end of this trial.

5. In a no-lose situation with Dodgers, Manny Ramirez is a lost cause

Dodgers General Manager Ned Colletti is the center of attention before a spring training game against the San Francisco Giants on Thursday in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Offered a deal that favored him completely, the outfielder turns it down. Now it's personal, between his agent Scott Boras and Dodgers owner Frank McCourt, and between the team and Ramirez.

Bill Plaschke
February 27, 2009
Think about this.

For the first year, he would earn $25 million, making him the highest-paid athlete in Los Angeles and the second-highest-paid player in baseball.

If he failed, the following year he still would earn $20 million.

If he succeeded, he could immediately void the contract and sell himself for millions more.

It was a real offer. It was written on a real contract. It was handed over during a time of real national economic distress.

For a 36-year-old man who quit on his last team, it was a golden chance at redemption, an unthinkable deal of a lifetime.

9. sign the deal motherfucker
or take your steroid-laden ass to the midgets.

It all comes down to this...if the Dodgers want to win it all they need Manny. They have to sign him. Whether I sign up for DirecTV Extra Innings pretty much depends on whether Manny signs or not. So come on, Manny. Do you want me to be bored all summer having to watch the Z's for entertainment? And putting up with Krukow's jokes and Kuiper's lame and repetitive play-by-play style? I mean.....REALLY???

15. Why aren't you a Giants fan?
Hell, I pay for the DirecTV MLB package just so I CAN have the luxury of watching the Giants games with Kruk and Kuip.

BTW, Kuiper's play by play style sure beats listening to Vin Scully's monotone.

20. You make a good point
Edited on Sat Feb-28-09 04:01 AM by Onceuponalife
I pretty much agree with you about Vinny...his heyday is long since past, but he's an institution and a Hall of Famer. Do you seriously think Kuiper will make it to the hall as a broadcaster? And being in the business for over 50 years (all with the Dodgers) is an amazing accomplishment.

As far as the Giants broadcasts go, it may surprise you, but I actually enjoy them. They are superior to the A's broadcasts (especially post Bill King and Greg Papa) and I love how they show the crowd so much. Some very funny stuff going on in the crowd! I have been to SBC park (or whatever corporate moniker it has now; that's one thing you can say about Dodger Stadium--it's always been Dodger Stadium, not Motorola Park or some silliness) many times and enjoyed it and would love to have Krukow "eliminate" me in my Dodgers gear. As I have said before, I love the city of SF and I happen to think the fans, in general, are ace. Much better than a lot of the hooligans that pass for A's fans these days (I like to think of them as Raiders fans passing the time until football season starts). I enjoy the rivalry between the Dodgers and the Giants immensely (I think it's the best rivalry in all of pro sports) and my ribbing of the "midgets" is meant good naturedly. I don't understand the hatred some Giants fans feel for the Dodgers (jealousy perhaps because the Dodgers have been world champs twice since coming west from NY compared to zero championships for the Giants?). I don't feel that same hatred for the Giants, maybe because I was raised in SoCal where things are more laid back. If it makes you feel any better I far prefer living in NorCal to Socal.

ETA: you ask why am I not a Giants fan? Well, in all honesty, I think I probably would be a Giants fan if I had been raised here rather than in SoCal. It's just a simple matter of chance of birth. Actually, I could easily see myself as a Giants fan.

Good is in quotes because I mean, let's be honest.

10. It's simple
Manny and Boras want their butts kissed...they know the Dodgers want him bad. I think they want 3 years or so guaranteed.

Still, 25 million per is an awful lot for a player who has attitude problems..I don't care how great a hitter he is.

Maybe Sabean should make a 1 year blow him out of the water offer and see what he says....it couldn't hurt to try.

The NL West is pretty weak; they could easily win the division without Manny.

14. Dodgers are a mediocre team
without Ramirez..they were 54-54 last year and struggling before Manny showed up...we all know what happened after.

Also, count on Arizona and the Giants to be improved this year.

Dodgers need him bad.

18. Let the record reflect that we agree on something.
I heard this news this morning and am trying to figure out just why this offer was rejected.

The Dodgers should just sit back and wait for the phone to ring when Manny and Boras finally realize no one will give them more money than LA.

19. Actually, it's just Manny that's the idiot.
He'd likely get a better deal if he hadn't douchebagged out on the BoSox and shown himself to be a fucking moron that can't be relied on for a team...unless it's Team Manny.

Fuck him.
