Giants defense just went from good to great
The Giants were the 5th ranked defense. While losing only an average safety (who will be replaced with a former first round draft pick), they just added a starting linebacker from Atlanta (Mike Boly), the starting Defensive Tackle from Seattle (Rocky Benard) and the Starting Defenisve end from Dallas (Chris Canty). To top Pro Bowl Osi Umenoyera will be returning to his defensive postion. This all happens, BEFORE the team makes any draft picks (and they have and extra 2nd and 5th from the Saints plus probably one or two comp picks). This is going to be a scary team next season, especially if Plax returns.

6. Plus the best offensive line in football
so they now have the best offensive and defensive lines

2. The Giants were a "scary" team last year
the NFC #1 seed and look where it got them...IMO, they need Burress back, as without him Eli looked like just an average QB.

4. Eli
had some of his best games on days Plaxico didn't play. He had a couple of bad days in horrendous weather. And Toomer got old real fast at the end of the year.

7. Well I don't think the team will have to lean on Eli as much this season
and there are a couple of young WRs who should be better this year (Hixon and Manningham). So they should be much tougher this season.

8. they'll rely on Eli
who had his best year as a pro last year. One bad playoff game does not erase that.

9. Now their offense just needs to keep from shooting themselves in the foot.

10. I don't see that being a problem
they still have one of the best offensive lines and a stable full of good running backs. Eli is getting better every year and the team will have the draft to replace Plax, if he doesn't come back. The future of this team is so bright, I have to wear shades.B-)

12. As I understand it...
A compensation pick is an additional draft pick awarded by the NFL determined by a formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors. The NFL league office determines where in the draft the pick should be and then adds it into the draft, as opposed to taking a pick away from another team. It goes to teams that lose more, or better, free agents then they sign.

13. The Giants
will be gaining comp picks this year because they lost some key free agents last offseason.

15. That's correct and I would add that forumla is secret
it is believed to take into account how the player was aquired, how much was paid for the player and how well they do for their new team MINUS any free agents the original team aquires. As Dave pointed out, the Giants lost a few good FAs after the Super Bowl, so the Giants should get one really good (maybe a 4th rounder) or a couple of lesser picks.
