Golfers - anyone play on the weekend?
I played in my usual club competition on Saturday. On a rather warm day - about 30c - I managed 32 stableford points with 89 off the stick. A pretty scrappy effort but any time I can break 90 is a good day. Then again; any day spent on a golf course is a good day.

2. As long as there's no snow and it hits the mid-upper 40's
Too cold in the midwest right now, but the snow is all gone. Hope I don't jinx anything, because hitting the links is possible if it warms up.

6. I played yesterday...I had a round that makes you want to quit.
But at least I was outdoors on a pretty day. :-)

10. First round of the new year.
My swing's in bad shape. I need to get to the range, although I hate practicing. I prefer to practice on the course.

I might look into a swing aid, like the Medicus. A friend here at work raves about it. He was killing the ball yesterday...

11. I Have One
Want it? I find it useless.

I have a very upright swing that accommodates the MS. It's an exagerrated back & up, THEN in, swing (think Jim Furyk). The Medicus doesn't work well with an upright swing and i find the takeaway required to prevent breakdown to be too slow for my natural rhythm

I can send it to you if you want. You set up a prepay at a UPS store and it's yours. Then you save the cash on the club, and just pay for shipping.

15. I'll look into that - thanks Prof.

I need to find a UPS store somewhere around here.

Edit - I am worried about the slow takeaway, too. But, I'm willing to give it a try. I once heard Nick Price say that if you are normally a fast-paced person, your golf swing should reflect that. I do most things quickly, so Medicus might not work with me. However, even if the takeaway part doesn't work, maybe I can set the club at the top of my backswing to stop my casting. I think I'm WAY too quick at the top of my backswing. When I deliberately slow myself down, I make better contact.

12. Medicus is pretty good
I have one and it really makes you slow down and smooth out the backswing. You can get very good deals on eBay.

Also I recommend the Inside Advantage, or actually a homemade version you can do yourself. I was coming across the ball until a club pro in Miami let me use his version for 2 or 3 lessons. It's nothing but PVC pipe that you cut to size and lay parallel and perpendicular to target. If you come through straight or inside-out you're fine, but the dreaded and radical outside-in slice mode smacks the pipe. I busted the first one I made.

Nicklaus plugs the fancy commercial version Inside Advantage, but it's something like 100 bucks for a few pieces of plastic and foam.

7. Not This Past Weekend, But Got One Lucky Round In
Still too cold, in general, but a couple weekends ago we had a Saturday in the 50's. (F, of course.)

I only got 9 holes in, but for the first round since late November, i did ok. I shot a 40. I wouldn't be happy with that in June, but for February, after a 3 month layoff, i can live with it.

I'm jonesin' to play though. Boy, do i want spring to have sprung!

8. I watched college baseball
There was a tournament at Rice (which is ten minutes from my house) and they played my alma mater, Lamar University, Sunday afternoon.

I played weekend before last (when the weather was in the 40's to the 60s) and shot true to form: 115.

16. It's next weekend already
I played yesterday in the club comp. It was another beautiful SE Queensland afternoon - around 30c with a light breeze - and scored 41 points in a stableford competition - which is 80 off the stick. I also lost another shot from my handicap and am now off 13. It has been a pretty good month for me. Since the beginning of the month I have lost 4 shots from my handicap.
