Pedro Martinez and Doug Mientkiewicz REFUSE To See Bush At White House
They were offered the opportunity to go visit Bush at the White House for the World Series meeting and refused.

Good for them.

They 'officially' said it was because they wanted to keep practicing with the Mets, but we all know they did it because Bush sucks.

I'm liking this team a lot already. April can't get here fast enough.

6. Oh please
:eyes:
yeah, Pedro's hates Bush so much he didn't even vote for him.

This might just be because these two players no longer PLAY for the Sox, and both left with some nastiness. I'd be excited if (my boyfriend)Theo didn't go, or John Henry decided to skip it. They both campaigned heavily for Kerry.

16. Derek Lowe is staying in Vero Beach, too.
I think it has more to do with not being with the red sox anymore. after all, it would be a bit awkward if all these former red sox showed up with the 2005 red sox, wouldn't it?

22. the final word on former Bosox going to the White House.
a word of warning: I recommend that you read the excerpted paragraph that actually pertains to former red sox and the white house . . . trust me, you're not going to like what you find in the full article.

"As for those members of the 2004 Sox who have moved on to other teams or endeavors, they were all invited to attend. Steinberg said that Dodgers right-hander Derek Lowe had expressed interest in going, but couldn't because of scheduling conflicts. Reliever Curtis Leskanic, who retired in the offseason, will likely be the only former member of the team on hand."

8. Remember when Mark Churmura of the Packers refused to see President ...
Clinton then was later arrested for having sex with a minor. I like it when republicans throw rocks in glass houses.

15. Ever read 'Good Walk Spoiled", about the PGA tour?
The Ryder cup team had been invited to the Clinton White House before they travelled, so Bill could wish them luck.

A handful of them refused to do it. And I wish I could remember who the captain was that year, but he said that if they didn't meet with the POTUS, and make a good show of it, he'd cut them then and there. On the spot. Had his alternates on standby, and everything.

The captain wasn't a Clinton man, himself, he just didn't think that was the time and place for personal politics.

Remember them good ol' days?

17. Tom Watson was the captain
They had some interesting quotes beforehand, but like you said, he made them toe the line and show respect. He also had a good quote to break the ice when the team was introduced to Clinton: "Mr. President, politics is like a good golf grip. Grip it too far left, and you'll have trouble. Grip it too far right, and you'll have trouble. Hold it in the middle, and you'll be just fine"
