7. Is He An Android?

People seem to want to ignore the fact that QB's generally fade very quickly. Unitas, Namath, Jurgenson, Montana, Marino, etc. etc. etc.

They have a pretty good penultimate year, but that last year is generally a disaster. The nagging injuries, changes in vision, small changes in the quickness of release, and little slower feet (although that couldn't have happened to Marino, since he was slow when he was fast!) and suddenly the whole package is no longer NFL quality.

Favre is going to be 40! He's going to hit that wall. Everyone does. The older a QB gets, the more likely it is to be THE year.

9. As a Vikings fan, I have real mixed feelings about this.

On the one hand, you have a QB I've hated for a long, long time and who is clearly in the twilight of his career, fading fast.

But on the other, a Vikes fan has to ask themselves: is Favre better than any other QB we have on our roster right now? And the sad but truthful answer is Yes. I say what the hell, if he wants to play, have him strap it on and see what he can do. We have a pretty easy start to the season; it should be obvious whether Favre can still do it and if not, put in Rosenfels or Jackson.

another person I know on this board who is a Vikings fan expressed interest in having Brett Favre, which surprised me. I figured after how he pretty much single handedly destroyed the Jets at the end of the season, I figured no one would want him..:shrug:

12. Early in the season last year, Mangini got a lot of criticism (from the media)

for not using Favre enough. In particular that first game against the Pats where they tried to run it in near the goal line and couldn't make it. I think he over-corrected and tried to use Favre to win all the games, and that's just not going to work anymore. The Vikes are a much more complete team than the Jets, a run-first offense missing a QB who can take advantage of a D that is cheating to stop Peterson. I dunno, it might work, it might not. I'm not opposed to trying him out.

Just like Nancy Kerrigan, I just keep asking WHY? There's nothing else for Brett to gain, but a hell of alot to lose. My understanding is that he simply wants revenge on Green Bay--if he have had a serious injury and wanted one more season, okay. One more season to get that first Super Bowl, sure. But to go back after years of drama queen scheming at Green Bay and New York..I'm just sick and tired of it. :puke:

Either he leads Minn to the playoffs, or he goes down in flames. Either way, its a heck of a story and good for the NFL.

I'm not sure why you call that a failure.

Also, who is over-rating him?

He has completed more passes than anyone in NFL history.
Thrown for more yards than anyone in NFL History.
Had more 3,000 yard seasons than anyone in NFL history.
Thrown more touchdown passes than anyone in NFL history.

Even with that record, I dont know anyone who rates him better than Montana, Unitas, Manning, Marino, Brady etc.

If you are saying he gets too much press coverage compared to his talent, I agree, but that's always the case in sports (see K. Bryant, A. Rodriguez)

...and i see a lot of people saying he's the best ever...I don't think he turned a team around, he ruined them...he can't last a season anymore and no one seems to want to admit that. I've also soured on him when he called Detroit to give them Packers plays right before they played them, and his going to minnesota is solely about revenge...and let's go on about the yearly soap opera he conducts for about 6 years now...am i retired, am i going to retire....

The Minnesota Vikings will not sign free-agent quarterback Brett Favre(notes), a source close to the team told Yahoo! Sports on Thursday.

The source said Favre told Vikings coach Brad Childress that he wanted to remain retired in a phone call that took place sometime in the last day. Favre is expected to publicly explain his decision soon.

Favre, who announced his first retirement in March 2008 after spending 16 seasons with the Green Bay Packers, decided to resume his career last summer and was traded to the New York Jets in August. After one season in New York, Favre retired again and was subsequently released by the Jets on April 29.

Just days after his release from the Jets, speculation began that the Vikings were interested in bringing in a veteran to compete with Sage Rosenfels(notes), who was acquired this offseason from the Houston Texans. Rosenfels is atop the depth chart heading into training camp, with Tarvaris Jackson and John David Booty(notes) also on the roster.
